I love my 03 Cobra!

One problem, I have about 12K miles now and was on a road trip in South Texas. Found a nice clear straight and level highway and mashed down on the foot feed.

At about 5500 RPM in 5th the wife asked, “what’s all the smoke?” I shut it down and begin coasting. All gauges normal. No loud banging or ticking noises. At normal highway speeds reengage 6th and continue normally down the road. Smoke goes away.

Later a nice clear straight road and again mash down on the foot feed. Watching for the smoke this time. At about 4000 RPM in 6th the smoke appears again. We were watching and apparently coming from around the transmission hump, especially near the floor driver’s side.

Again shut it down to normal highway speeds and continue trip. No apparent problems. I drove about another 300 or so miles.

Took car to dealer for ? Dealer found no problems. Any ideas or thoughts?

Too much oil? Too little oil? DO you have any mods? I've been up to 130 mph, redlined it on first and all speeds in between and no smoke at all. You know what they say:" where there's smoke . . . . "

Would bet your rear convertor heating up is burning something-- either touching something or some oil dripping from somewhere.

Do you drive every day? Have you checked for mouse/chipmunk/californians nesting on or near your exhaust/cat?

I have heard of the 03s smoking when the car is overfilled with oil. I think the car takes no more than 6 quarts I believe. When you change the oil and check the dipstick it will be a lot lower until you actually crank the car and lit it run then check it when it is cold again. Not sure if this is the case, but you may take that into consideration.

I've seen 6.5 quarts going in on four of the local '03's with no smoke. The manual says 6 though, I believe.
