hey, im thinkin about buying a 99-00 (whatever the budget permits) but i cant decide if its worth it. i mean i know they are fast as hell but the one thing that sorta bothers me is that its a truck...but you cant off road or haul much of anything. i know lightnings arnt made to off road etc but i have been in the air about either a lighting or a impala ss. they are both big v8s (impala ss isnt supercharged but has a lota potential to be fast as hell) but the one thing that draws me to the impala is that you can fit many people comfortably inside it, whereas with the lighting you can fit 2 people comfortably.
im not sure what my question is but any comments or suggestions would help out in my decision making process.
also, what are you guys paying for insurance? thanks
edit:they arnt 4x4 are they? just rwd? also, what are the main differences in the 99's and 00's and is it worth the extra $$$? thanks for helpin outo such a newbie.

You are wrong about not being able to haul anything in a Lightning. Yes the payload is small 800 pounds. It can pull a trailer up to 5,000 pounds. But that not why you buy one. You buy a lightning because it is one of the most fun thing out there to drive. Besides being faster than an SS it probalbly handles better.

haha those impalas arnt slowwww after a few mods.. they come with the ol LT1. it aint no lightning with the s/c and all but its pretty quick for a boat. theres people with twin turbo set ups, n2o, and s/c's givin lightnings a run for their $$$$. but your right if i buy a L it wont be for the payload, but ill probably tow stuff here & there.

But think if you put that much in mods for your lightning how much faster it would still be than the impala ss. Why not have one of the most fun rides you'll ever have and it's a truck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well the thing is impala ss's or caprice ss's(impala ss clone) are waaaay cheaper than 99/00 lightnings (year im lookin at) and if i got a caprice then i could use all that other money i saved from buyin a lightning to put into the caprice....who knows though i think im just scared of ford. ive always been a chevy kid and now my brain wants a lightning and i dont know what to think of it...haha
how reliable are lightnings?

Isn't the Impala SS a 4 door sedan?
4 dr sedan = old man's car. In my day a real Impala SS was a 2 door coupe or a convertible.
Wouldn't have a 4 door sedan on the property!

yea i dont mind though. 4 doors to me just means more room. haha old mans car with a LT1...
what kind of gas milage to 99/00's get? im sure you gota get the highest grade gas available so its probably pretty expensive huh? but hten again a LT1 guzzles gas aswell. my neighboor has a black lightning (dont know the year, its got the euro lights though)...hes already got a street bike, a corvette, and a big ol truck, maybe he wants to sell the lightning for cheap..haha
