 Has anyone been in the shop with their SVTF for cam or
lifter noises? Mine is going in tomorrow(again!) for loud knocking
in the valve cover at idle and the engine shakes real bad at idle;
as if the valve timing events were way off. Anybody have some input for me? Thanks!

There was a post about a tsb here that sounds pretty close:

I make no claims as to the validity, of course :)

yeah, I'm not believing that one until someone tacks a TSB number beside it. The ticking you hear is normal for the Zetec engine.

I know the difference between the usual clock-like ticking which
is typical to the Zetec; this is very pronounced grinding/knocking
at idle and the engine has no power from 3000-5000rpm and
the air-intake tube and exhaust never shook side to side before
at idle. It knocks alot less with the clutch pedal pushed in.

Outlaw,
I have 2 ZETEC Foci. SVTF and an SE. Neither have a "ticking" noise. Nor do they have bad vibration like you're indicating.
The SVTF did have a noise @ 2000 rpm that sounded like a popsickle sick in a fan that was resolved by replacing the exhaust flex pipe.

have you had them check the clutch and flywheel? If it goes away when you push in the clutch then it means something is up with the tranny.

To inteller's point, I had a similar sound on my 5.0, which was a bad throwout bearing in the clutch.

whats up outlaw? where the hell you been lol??? i hear ticking. i asked about it awhile back, i was givin' the "big **** that" look from the service rep, and i was told it as the fuel injectors, and i was sent on my way. whatever. they cant even put the right oil in my damn car, so if it breaks, fries, melts, or blows up, its their problem. i will drop it off out back lol

Hey Jonny, I do think the new knocking is linked to the throwout
bearing because the clutch pedal chatters a bit now on take offs
but the car has NO POWER from 3000-5000rpm at all, feels like
I installed a 200mm throttle body. All this started a few days after
RLA-6 was installed, ran great first two days other than cold
start stalling then lost power and something sounds like it wants
to come out of the valve-cover at idle now and the engine shakes
at idle like it was running on three cylinders. This car is fast becoming a mechanical nightmare, it ran like **** with RLA-2 and
now it's worse since RLA-6; I'm going to test drive an RSX-type S
and a Bullitt today while the SVTF is in the shop AGAIN, I don't
want to deal with this car when it has no warranty left. Had
nothing but Fords for 14 years and after buying this one I'm
reading to change brands!Oh yeah, and I have to have both
headlamps changed too for fogging, yet another day in the shop!
