You can now setup a list of most recent activity on the SVTOA forums right on your active desktop!! This is WAY cool! You can monitor what is happening on this vB outside of your web browser...

If you don't understand me, please see these screenshots:

This is the top half, I have the scrollbar on my screen up at the top:

This is the scrollbar on the bottom...

In order to make this work, you need to follow these instructions
to add this hack to your desktops (note that these in-
structions are for Windows ME and XP and they may need to
be modified for other Windows versions):

Windows ME/98:
A. Right click on your desktop anywhere that is not on an icon.
B. Go to Active Desktop->Customize My Desktop.
C. Find the "Web" tab at the top. Click it.
D. Check the box next to "Show Web Content on my Active
Desktop".
E. Click "New".
F. Type http://www.svtownersassociation.com/svtoaforums/latest.php
G. Click "OK" and then "OK" again at any alerts that open.
H. Make sure the box next to the "Latest Topics" page is
checked.
I. Click "Apply".
J. Click "OK".
K. Click and drag the top of the little window to change its
position.
L. Click and drag the bottom, left, or right borders to resize
the window.

For Windows XP: On your desktop, (not on an icon obviously!) Right click/properties/desktop/customizedesktop/web and continue from step E above...

NOTE: this will NOT work on other vB's like Stangnet or The Corral, unless they have installed the hack which includes the "latest.php" file as well as the five custom templates that must be installed in the program.

Enjoy!! :bna: :bna:

Greg, Looks like we have to click the down arrow on the top bar and then click "Synchronize" to refresh? Or will it refresh on it's own?

I like it :D

It will refesh on its own, I think I have it set to refresh at 180 seconds? otherwise you can right-click the desktop (not on an icon of course) and select REFRESH.

Roger: I have a machine around here somewhere with that OS, when I get a moment I will see what I can find, but basically what you need to do is make sure that active desktop is enabled, and then make sure the URL for that hacked page is entered in the content window as one of the selections....

Well Roger, I just tried this on a machine running Windows98, and you go in this sequence:

Right click desktop (not on an icon)

Select "Active Desktop"

Then Select "Customize my Desktop"

The dialog box that appears will already have the WEB tab selected for you. Now click "New"

A dialog box will pop up asking for the URL of the Active Desktop item you want to create.

Enter the url:

http://www.svtownersassociation.com/svtoaforums/latest.php

Then click "OK"

Once windows synchos with the web page, the item will become part of your active desktop.

If still unsure, consult your windows HELP area and search for "ACTIVE DESKTOP" topics...

Hi Greg. It wouldn't give me a NEW option, but I put it on the desktop via a shortcut, so that will work ok too.

Thanks for digging into that for me.
