Helmets
There have been many questions regarding helmets for use at our SVTOA On Track programs, as well as other driving school events.
Below is a link to a helmet that is;
A) Snell approved (SA 2000)
B) Affordable: $149.99 (plus shipping)
C) One that will be eligible for until at least 2012! (that is if you take CARE of it..)

I've got a Bell Star 1 which is a full face Snell 2000 helmet. Dugan racing was selling them for 99.99. But they don't have it on their website, I had to order it by phone. It's a nice helmet for the money IMHO

That's the one I got, and from the same place. It was the only "reasonable" helmet I could get in black to match the car! ;) :D

You might want to mention the difference between the rating systems so that those who are looking for maybe a better deal will not waste money on a helmet that does not meet the standards dictated by the rules. For most sanctioning bodies, they require that the drivers of vehicles with enclosed cockpits (i.e.: a car or truck) wear helmets with a NOMEX lining. NOMEX is fire retardent and will not shrink-wrap your face in a fire like the Nylon linings of a motorcycle helmet will.
Motorcycle helmets (I believe that they are MA00 rated) are not required to have a fire retardent lining because, in the event of a wreck on a motorcycle, you are more likely to be thrown clear of a fire. In a vehicle though, we all know that doors can jam or the car can roll and trap you inside a burning vehcile. The NOMEX lining offers another level of protection. Its much more comfortable than the nylon, IMO also.
If I am wrong, please correct me but that info was given to me by a friend who works with Hubbard-Downing, the makers of the HANS device. They are pretty current on the rules and regulations for safety equipment.
