I've heard that the aftermarket CAI's aren't any better than an OEM replacement air filter. The comparison was with K&N filters. So rather than spending over $200 on a CAI from ICE man or someone else I used an OEM replacement K&N. My question is, the snorkel is being blocked by the hood, what would be a reccommendation for getting more air flow? I've though maybe a shop here could modify my hood so the scoop would be exposed. Maybe I could reroute the hose and snorkel.

Give me your throughts. I'm of course looking to spend as little as possible.:bna

perhaps you should get the Ford Racing drop in filter and see if you notice a difference before going with any CAI. It's only $35 or so and won't be a big investment if you don't like it.

The cold air intake should be a little better than just swapping air filters. But, I spent like $240.00 for one. I'm not sure if it made a "significant" gain in power. So you may just want to skip the intake and just swap your air filters. One thing that I will give the CAI credit for is the sound that it makes! This doesn't answer your question, but it's just my 2 cents.

adjective:
1. Worth my hard earned money
2. Are the results worth the 240 bucks?
3. 5 hp > or < $240.00?

I dropped a K&N in the stock air box and did this:

Of course, it's not real pretty (it's a prototype), but it seems to work pretty good.

A temp probe that I have permanently installed in the airbox shows .5 degrees F temp over ambient at highway speeds, about 6 F over ambient in city driving, and 12 F or so over in stop and go traffic.

Long-term idle temperature is quite high though, but lower than without it.

Did you check intake temps before this install for comparison?

The AEM CAI works! Not only do you get a good sound but the ambient air temp stays the same.

Outside temp 46 degrees
IAT 45-47 degrees

That driving on the freeway at 75 mph
Test were done with a OBM engine tester hook to my computer.
Cylinder temp was 202 degrees

I installed the AEM cold air system and it works great!! I have also installed the strut brace, FC UDP and urethane mounts. At the KC chapter event this past weekend my Focus could pull GT Mustangs down any straight and was substantially faster than the other Foci there.

The parts work!!

Does the crank pulley replace the harmonic balancer or does it bolt to the harmonic balancer? I have heard different things from different people and I would like the extra power, but not at the cost of having an engine that vibrates more than it should, especially with the 7,000+ redline.
