Hey Guys,
For my next mod I am considering underdrive pulleys. However, when the 2001s first came out and people were putting underdrive pulleys on them I was reading terrible stories of engine problem and other problems that were being associated with the addition of the underdrive pulleys. I held off buying them until more people had experienced them. Now, a couple years later it looks like most 01 Cobra owners are adding them as a standard modification so I guess they are alright?
What are the best ones to use?? March, Steeda, ASP, FRPP, etc., and why??
I appreciate all responses as they are all helpful.

I went with the Steeda Underdrive Pullies. Swapped out the
crank & waterpump pullies only. I read about some light dimming
stories regarding the alt. pulley so I choose to wait. Knowing me I'll throw it on later anyway.
So far the engine temp needle is staying dead center of the gauge.
The crank pulley took a little effort to get off. See the
"Crank Pulley" thread.
There is a noticeable difference in performance. It takes less
throttle to achieve the same acceleration and at WOT the
car pulls harder after 3,000. I've heard the pullies are good
for 5 - 8 hp.

I have Steedas so I could add the timing adjuster. Besides the Ford rep told me that any piggy backed balancers would void any crank related waranty. I believe that Steeda is the only setup that has it's own balancer, the rest of them piggy back the balancer to thier pulley.

Hey Lumpydog and 99_Venom,
Thanks for the response. 99_Venom, did of you notice any increased power like lumpydog did?
I noticed you also did the timing adjuster, did that help?? If you were to get a custom chip would that add anything or not since you already bumped up the timing??

The main thing you notice from the UD pulleys is a QUICKER response to throttle input I think. I didn't really notice the power increase (something like 5 RWHP...dyno's on my site) but DID notice that the engine revved more quickly and seemed to pull faster. These would directly relate to faster times without a big increase in power.
I put all 3 pulleys on, and the only noticable problem is if you're running all of your accessories. If it is night, and you have the lights, fog lights, ac, cd palyer, etc all going, you have to give the car a bit more gas when you stop at a light or something to keep the lights from dimming. I've found 1000 rpm works just fine. This is not a problem at all since we have standard trannies. ;)

I also put on all three pullies. Did notice it seemed to rev quicker. The timing adjuster REALLY helped. When I did dyno it last year before the adjuster my AF ratio was staying close to 12.5 acress the board with the mods I had so I just went with the timing adjuster instead of the chip. I used my Autotap system to monitor the knock sensor and kept bumping up the timing until it started to rattle the knock sensor then backed it back down to a safe level. That turned out to be 14 degrees with 91 octane and the Outlaw octane booster (metal cans only). That made a world of difference in torque, so I would suggest the timing adjuster as a good mod to anyone.

Another vote for the Steeda pulleys.. I put mine on this past weekend..
Seems to rev quicker.. gauges read the same!
Good Luck!

Hey guys,
Again, thanks for all your input on the underdrive pulleys. It is definitely my next mod.
Who has the best price for the Steeda Underdrive pulleys? Now that I know what I want I may as well get the best price!
thanks,

I bought my Steeda Underdrive Pullies from the www.stangnet.com website. This website is linked to a on-line store that had the best price when I bought mine a few months ago. They sent email confirmations and included the UPS tracking number so I knew exactly where the package was and when it would arrive. I don't have the info. in front of me right now but I believe the on-line store name was Part Shopper PRO3 or something like that.
F.Y.I Try to find a pulley puller that has a shorter center bolt. The first one I rented had a long bolt that didn't fit between the crank
and the radiator fan. I ended up buying one and having the machine shop at work shorten it by 1 1/8" to fit without removing the fan (I'm Lazy).
Good Luck:bash:

Careful guys - as I've posted elsewhere, don't forget the gauges SUCK - they are fake. The temp gauge will not move past mid-scale until WELL past 220*. It, like the volts and press, is worse than an idiot light. Stuck at middle unless something is so bad the engine is toast anyway. You cannot see trends with this pathetic setup.
Until you put in real gauges, you really don't know how much hotter (if any) the engine will run in traffic.
