OK everything is picked out and financed... I really appreciate evryone who contributes to my litlle dilemas, Thank you. Sorry to get off on a tangent... I will be getting my s/c installed in the upcoming weeks and I need a little help. I was talking to the guy who is installing my s/c and he said I might want to go with a 6lb. pully instead of the 8lb. The guy said that the 99-01 cobra motors are well built except for the internals especially the connecting rods. I was wondering what pound of boost you guys are running and if there have been any probs. Thanx again...

I'm running the vortech supplied pully supposed to be 8 lbs but I have not check it yet. He is correct the internals are not what the 03 has, however many people are using these without much trouble. Some people that race their cars have broken them. You don't want to push your motor all the time. But remember until you build boost the engine is running under the same pressure as stock. It only when you push it that you are putting any pressure on it. On the street you shouldnt have any problems, except maybe with the local donut eaters. :p

I have the 8 lb. pulley as well, although I'm probably pushing 9-10 lbs. of boost since I have the Powerpipe. I haven't had any problems, but I don't race my car either. The biggest suggestion I would have is to get it tuned after the blower's installed. I'm actually doing that this Saturday. Good luck!

How do you like that Powerpipe? A lot of guys and gals are telling me to get one. Can I ask you how much you paid for yours? Did you install you blower yourself? Where are you getting the tune from. Please post numbers. Thanx in advance for you input...

I like it a lot. According to Anderson Ford Motorsport, it's good for an additional 8 hp with stock Vortech pullies. Here's more info ...

"AFM POWER PIPES® were developed because of the need for a Supercharger intake pipe that would flow at a higher rate of CFM, with a larger volume of air, brought on by the demand that the Vortech S-R-T-Trim S/Cs have when making 10 lb of boost or more.

The AFM POWER PIPE®, with its all mandrel bend construction, is the highest flowing inlet pipe for the V-1 supercharger available. We also put the mass air in the inner fenderwell for a cooler intake charge."

A buddy of mine did the install. As far as the tune, I'm having that done by fordchip.com at Dyno Pro Auto in Wauconda ... it's part of a dyno/tune day that a local Mustang club is holding. Getting the Diablo Delta flip chip. The PowerPipe by itself goes for $250 ... however, I also bought a ProM 80 mm MAF to go with it. Lots of people go with the Lightning MAF, too ... either way, you're okay.

Most of your engine builders will say once you get close to 500rwhp, your pushing the envelope with the stock internals. Last summer,I was at 482rwhp on my 01' Cobra with stock internals, no issues. I have the Vortech SC trim w/ aftercooler. I changed my 3.48 pulley (which dynoed @458rwhp) to a 3.125" pulley and rwhp rose to 482.:D BTW, boost was 10psig.

01' Cobra vert./ #552 of 3384 build
SHM 575 longblock
592rwhp
mods too long to list:wtf:

on our '98 we are running the Vortech SC SQ
8 pounds as well...

we also have the power pipe --

very highly recommend it !!:tmb:

we are at about 440 rhp --
its difficult getting the tires to hook up when its 45 degrees outside --
but she runs much better when its cool out!

BEWARE --
when you get your blower -- don't push it when its HOT outside.........
you probably don't anyway -- but just in case...
allot of guys have blown up their supercharged engines getting on it when it is an extremely hot day... :spank: :wtf: :(

I was thinking of stopping over there to see what is involved with a dyno tune on Sun if I get all my yard work done on Sat. The Fordchip guys are suppose to be some of the best in the country. The event is sponsered by midwestfords.org, I'm a member over there too, but checking this out is free to all.
