I am new to the convertible world. Is it MANDATORY that I have a roll cage/bar for participation in on track events? I assume all Drag Strip facilities will require I have one to do 1/4 mile runs but was not sure about the road track stuff.... Any help from you guys would be great...

It all depends on the event and track. I notice they let verts run at Route 66 drag strip test & tune nights, but I'm not sure how fast their techs certify them to run. I didn't see any convertible late model vets, so they may not let you run if your car is too fast. You can always call or email the track you're interested in before you head out there.

Usually need one for autocross, Dagwood could prolly give you more info on this

Unless you are running in the 11s or something like that you don't need a cage or roll bar for a convertible. There is a set level where you need certain safety equipment. A helmet when you hit the 13s, a certain level of roll bar or cage at XXs. If you are close to stock you won't need to add safety upgrades for drag racing.

Road racing depends on the event.

Where did the sun shine go??

Road track events also do not require a roll bar. They will put you in a seperate class/group with other verts. You will need a helmet for most on track events however. Any SVTOA event will not require a roll bar. They do require you to have your car checked by a mechanic before you arrive and have documentation to show it. Thats important to protect you and everyone else. We don't want people showing up with bad brakes etc.

Thanks everyone. Trying to make sure I am in good shape for the SVT Experience at the 100th Anniversary event. Thanks.

I am attending the 1/4 mile on Thursday, On-track on Friday and the reception at SVT HQ on Saturday for sure.

I'm attending the 1/4 mile on Friday along with the SVT reception, haven't received the Centennial schedule yet. I won't be in Dearborn until Thursday at about noon.

I was suprised that Ford was not offering any factory tours for the SVT Experience. Back in 2000 we got the Romeo niche line tour and checked out the Cobra engine build-up.

Yeh that sucks. I would like to see the engine build process. I am going to be arriving around the same time. I have a wedding so I will not be at the next chapter meeting so I will see you up there.
