In my opinion a supercharger or any kind of engine power adder is the most expesive item you can put on a car as a mod. Here's my story... Got the s/c picked out, and the shop who is going to install it, but ran into the ever so financing dilema. I noticed that most of the members have s/c's installed aftermarket... I am wondering how some of you financed, or purchsed such mods, or if someone might point me in the right direction. I have been waiting for this mod for 2 years, and my enthusiasm is out growing my patience :) I don't mean to get personal with anybody:huh: , but I really want this item. Any help would be appreciated...

Fortunately; I am a "little" older now and can afford such options that I couldn't when I was younger. ;)

Seriously a couple options;

Build an older cobra and S/C it. Superchargers for older cobras are cheaper than the new ones with the returnless fuel system. 5.0 S/C's are even cheaper especially if you find a used one.

Do the install yourself. I didn't go this route because I knew it would take me a long time and I don't have the free time. But I have talked to others who have done it sucessfully. I am told Vortech has good instructions however a good chip and tuning might cost a few hundred.

Last option: forget the s/c. Put a 4.10 gear in your cobra and have fun driving. I must admit since I got my s/c it worries me a little about putting to much pressure on my engine and half shafts. Don't get me wrong the car runs great but when it was stock I knew I could run it as hard as I wanted. Now I feel I need to baby it. jmo

Also keep in mind the rammification when putting an SC on an older car. Not to toot my own horn:cool: but SVT did a pretty fair amount of building out the internals in the 03' Cobra. Yes they have to support warranty claims but still I think it is a valid consideration. Dagwood I do also concur with your choice of building out an older Mustang with an SC for $ considerations....

Do you own your own home and have some equity in it?

The interest rate on a Equity Line of Credit is 4-5% and is tax deductable. My neighbor just bought a nice used boat on his equity line. I actually bought my Cobra this way back in '97 when car loan rates were 10.5%

The SC question has been on my mind for a while. I have read that anything over 8 LBs will shorten the life of the original 4.6 Cobras. I am leaning toward 411 gears on the 97 and continue to watch the results and prices on the aftermarket SC kits. If I did it I'd pay more and have a warranty at a place like Kenny Brown.

For now I am investing in our old Mustangs. It will be a while before a SC on my 97 becomes a real subject of discussion. ;)

Here's a thought. If you currently own the car, no leins, you can refi it and get cash back. And if you do have a lien on it, you may be able to still get $$ back by refiing it depending on your credit. Rates are great right now too!!
