AutoXing a 450HP '03 Cobra!

Yesterday, 3/30, I Autocrossed my modifed '03 Cobra for the first time. I've been doing SCCA SoloII for about five years now. Started with a '99 Neon ACR (STS). Went to an '01 Cobra (FS). Got the '03 Cobra last June (SS). Modified it over the winter and ended up in SM2 this year.

It was just absolutely amazing to run this car. It handled great plus it had the most HP I have ever experienced on a closed course. Do not let anybody tell you that these cars can't be autocrossed because the are to heavy. 450HP and torque to boot take care of any minor weight concerns!

Buy 'em, mod 'em and race 'em!

Just picked mine up from the dealer today, after waiting since ordering it in October. It's silver like yours. I was grinnin' from the time I first sat in it, and I'm still grinnin'! It's a fun car.

Autcross is on my mind too but it is also something I haven't done before. I want to get some miles on the car before I autocross it, but I'm starting to get prepared. I've bought another set of rims and some Yok A032R's. I was also going to change the brake pads to Hawk HP+ and get some sub-frame connectors installed before I start. Since you're experienced, maybe you could let me have your views.

Did you run the stock brake pads, or did you change them? If so, to what? Brakes work OK? My '89 5.0 LX was a bit of a flexible flyer, so I thought I wouldn't run the car until I had the sub-frame connectors installed. I didn't see those on your list of mods, and I wondered whether you think they would be immediately necessary? I suppose they won't help the prep points either.

One other question. What tires and tire pressures did you use? My only familiarity with race type sticky tires comes from sprint kart racing, so for autocross, I'm totally in the dark!

You must try Auto-cross. My wife and I went the other week in Lincoln, NE. Had a blast. Great people with lots of help, instruction and even some Mustang comraderie. Folks were really amazed with the '03 Cobra. I plan on attending some driving schools this Spring and doing some mods, then watch out autocross circuit.
