Both my fogs are cracked too. I have a 2002 and hardly ever use the fog lights.

I have heard it\'s very common, possibly due to heat?

Is this a warranty issue I can take to the dealer, or am I just stuck buying new ones?

The warranty should be bumper-to-bumper 3/36 unless it is different on your model. I would think that you should be able to have this situation corrected by the dealership. You might as well look into the issue and find out for sure.

Good luck!

What I have heard is that SVT is leaving up to the Dealer to decide if replacement under warranty is appropriate. Most do and will unless it appears it took a direct hit from road debris. Ford also requests dealers check for aftermarket bulb installation since they produce higher heat levels.

Ford is reportedly getting a replacement foglight assembly/lenses from Hella soon.

Fishmnbum, where did you get that bike? In other words, who made it? Orange County Choppers? It looks like one of thier creations unless its a really toned down West Coast Choppers deal?

Anyway, awesome bike! I\'m not much of a motorcycle person but if I had to own one, I think I\'d want a Diablo from West Coast Choppers!

Sorry to get off subject.

I haven\'t had any problems with fog lights in my Lightning (\'01). No cracks, dings or blown bulbs. At least not yet! *knocks on wood*

I don't even turn them on anymore it wasn't to bad when they were only $28.00 ea.(for Hella) But for some reason someone said we can make some money here and now they are $97.00 ea. (for Hella) you can get copy's for $18.00 ea. So I'll get the copys tell I sell her.:jawdrop:

The last time I got my fogs fixed at my local non svt dealer they were slightly different than the old ones. They dont have the plastic cover over the bulb. Now you can just see the entire bulb. So far they have not cracked but it might be due to the fact that I dont drive down the road over 45 mph with them on and I only use them past that speed barrier when I have my bra that I modded with window screen mesh over the fog light holes so bugs and road debris doesnt get on them.

Mine cracked within the 1 month. I took it to a non-SVT Ford dealer and had them replaced (no questions, no hassle). I think it's an issue with the plastic they use for the lens.

Fog lens fell out and sliced the front tire on the sidewall.
Got the tire replaced, now on to the fog light.
Q: Where's the best place to get a new one? The warranty ran out a week before, so I want a cheap one.
Someone said that the fogs for the 2000 L is a Mustang part. Is that so?
All replys are appreciated

:spinem: You can get the fog lens for a 87-93 GT which are the same I would suggest also getting the plastic covers to go over them it could save a tire but it does save rock hits on them. You can get them just by ordering them from the ads in one of the Mustang Mags. or http://www.brothersperformance.com/ thats were I got mine

:bna Since I put plasic covers over mine they have not broken or even cracked and you can use them. Only thing is that if you have them on and it's hot out side and your not moving they will melt the covers. The cover are for a (I think) 87-93 GT fog lights.:bna

My 03 Cobras fogged up almost immediately,
they clear up after a while and same cycle over
and over again, no cracks but a bad seal that I could
probably fix w/some silicone.
My old 99 Lightning on the otherhand, I went through 2
sets and they were $$$$ive. I ended up getting
some clear lighting plastic gels that actually stick on,
and don't melt. Same stuff they use in Concert
Stage Lighting "Lots Of Heat". My L's lenses cracked
from rocks. Not too many street lights around here
so foglights are a must. Especially w/my Cobra
the lights just dont seem to project very far.
Hey SuperChicken I met you a few years back at a car show,
Santa Margarita I think. The show was put on by SCCOA
I think. You had your chrome wheels then, I had a red 99 too.
You still got that chicken on your tail gate? :tmb:

I don't know, but the new warranty replacements might be better. Mine cracked on my '01 within the 1st month. I let it go for a while to check into some aftermarket replacements. Finally decided to take it to the local dealer (not SVT certified). They replaced both under warranty, no questions asked and they have not cracked since. I would say it's possible that Ford has corrected the problem. My guess would be that the early lens cracked due to something with the plastic composition. I'm happy and so is my L.

Jeff,
I've had mine for 2 years now and have had fewer problems with it than most vehicles I've owned (including 3 E320's, Volvo T5, Audi S4, 2 Z71's & Infinity J30) in the past 10 years. And these are all (except maybe the Z71's) quality built vehicles. My wife & I both trade about every 2 years and we try everything. Honestly the L has been my favorite truck. I've had the fog lights and 1 tail light replaced under warranty. That's it. Really minor problems compared to some vehicles. Of course if you mod it out and take it to the track every weekend then things are going to break. I don't race except for occasional street jousts and I do like to hear the SC whine so I don't really baby it either. You won't be dissapointed.

I have had the 2003 fog lights in my 2002 for about 10 months now without any problems. I even switched to a 65 watt bulb (9005). They are a great improvemant over the 2001/2 lights.

Super Chicken, where do you get the replacement fog lights for $18.00. My truck is new, but it sounds like I will need them soon and I do not want to pay through the nose for them. Thanks for your assistance.

I had mine once but at different times. The dealer told me to keep the fogs off when it is raining as heat from the bulb will cause expansion and the seal will split allowing water inside the lense, makes sense but you would think they would have a fix for this I never had this problem with my old 85 gt fogs?

One thing to consider. I have always covered my lights (fogs, driving, headlites) with Helicopter Tape. This is vinyl tape about 8 mil thick, and avail. in widths from 2" to 12". It also works well for covering bodywork to prevent rock chips.
Available from most racing supply houses (if you can't find any, email me)

After three sets of OEM lights in three years, I got tired of replacing the plastic POS factory lights and went with a pair of 4-inch Navigator (Pilot) Cyberwhite NV607-Ws with glass lenses. I've replaced one bulb in two years, they do not crack, and they do not leak. Less than $50 delivered to my door.

These were not a direct bolt-in replacement. However, with a little creative engineering, they adapted to the Lightning airdam quite well. They have a factory look to them and do not vibrate on bumpy roads. The candlepower is about three times that of the factory lights too.

During the past two years, I've discovered that the NV607-Ws are getting hard to find. However, JC Whitney has them under a different part number...... same light though. Click here. (http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/ItemBrowse/c-10101/s-10101/p-100000274886/mediaCode-ZX/appId-100000274886/Pr-p_CATENTRY_ID:100000274886)

These lights come with a glow ring that actually looks kinda neat when lit up. I decided to wire the glow rings on mine to the factory parking lights. When the parking lights or head lamps are activated, the glow rings light up (I used the red boots). When the foglight switch is pulled out, the glow rings disappear. Not ricey at all..... the glow rings are not neon lights. What makes them glow is the texture of the glass around the outside ring, and two small bulbs with different color boots that are applied over the bulbs. If the glow ring bulbs are not wired up (they have their own circuit), the glow ring is undetectible.

For me, the key to getting a tight fit with these lights was to find a way to bolt them in. The "universal" mounting brackets that come with the lights are useless. I ended up drilling two small holes in the back of the plastic housing of each light, next to the posts where the "universal" mounting brackets are supposed to connect. I then took a couple of long, thin threaded screws, ran them down a few turns into the holes allowing them to tap their way into the plastic, then cut off the screw heads with a Dremel.

Placing the threaded rods against the back of the airdam where the factory foglights go, I pushed hard enough against the surface to score the paint and mark where I needed to drill my holes in the airdam. Then all that was needed was a couple of washers, two nuts to fit the threaded rods, and I trimmed off the excess rod once the lights were centered and tightend up.

For those wanting to see what these lights look like when lit.....

Here's a shot with the parking lights on and the glow rings illuminated. I used the red caps for the glow ring bulbs.
