Ok, another question that I could use everyone's expertise on. In a previous post, I had mentioned that my 96 cobra had 117,000 miles on it and I was looking into an engine rebuild. The first question would have to be this. Will this engine rebuild bring this cars potential power back to near showroom condition? Dealing with engine rebuilding, I was looking through Summit and found rebuild kits. These claim to be complete and inexpensive so would this be the same kit of material used as if I were to bring it to a mechanic to be worked on. Also, in these kits, they are advertised with two choices: Forged and Hypereutectic. Which is more beneficial for a future Vortech w/Aftercooler application. Lastly, I have priced my Coolant System Upgrade through Ford Parts and have been hit with around $1,400. Is there a cheaper way around this? Thanks as always and if anyone has AOL IM the screen name is Out99sider.

spend the money on the forged gear, it'll do you better, you might also want to consider forged rods while you have it apart, and a set of ARP hardware to put it together. The other thing to consider is to have the motor bored over, but no more that .020
next thing, there are many companies that provide pistons, rods etc. speed pro isn't exactly on my list....
you might want to consider calling any of the shops that deal with modulars, and discussing it with them, try Steeda, Sean Hyland, or any of the others

If you aren't going to supercharge, you might want to look at a new short block and refurbish your heads. Or for $12,495.00 you can just install a '03 engine:D

I agree, if you're gutting it, might as well forge the entire bottom end, especially if you're supercharging it. I know from experience, the stock motor doesn't hold up to much over 450hp.
