Hi everyone! I am new to the race car world. I have always been a big Ford fan but now I feel the need for something more potent. I have found a good deal on an 01 Cobra for with 15000 miles for 22500 $ in excellent condition. Or I can go to another dealer and get an 03 for about 35k. For bang for the buck the 01 seems a better deal. I don't plan on doing much racing. Would the 01 suit my needs? I have however ridden in Superchargers before and love the potent kick and the sound. So, for my first Cobra should I get the good deal on the 01 or just suck up the cost and get the 03? Since the 01 is cheap I guess I could afford to do some mods. I am sure it is a matter of taste but I am just trying to get some help from guys and gals that have been there and done that! Thanks again.

That price sounds good. Some things to check though.
Ping(detonation).
Any accidents.
Service records.
etc.

The cost to MOD depends on what you want to do. You could easily spend between 3 and 7K for mods depending on what stage of MOD fever you have.
If you are going to finance, then this brings you into the '03 range. I'm not certain if 0% is available for the '03 Cobra. If not then my above thought is wrong.
An '03 Cobra is pretty much done if you have MOD fever. The only thing that stays within the realm of possible voiding your warranty is exhaust, and a lowering spring kit. Exhaust will net you close to 400 RWHP.
I could go on and on..........
It goes back to you saying with a 22.5K car you have $$$$ to play. With the '01, warranty is probably almost up, so that is all the more reason to play.

Good luck with your decision, and welcome to the club.

Test drive both of them and that may make your decision a little easier.

look at the "bang" thread. Those motors don't sound like they are getting warrantied. The 03 is factory blown warrentied hp.:fryem:

The 03 is the most powerful Ford ever produced as far as I can tell.Nothing else compares.;)

I've had both and I perfer the 03 Cobra. I personally like the feel and the natural power of the 03. The 01 was very nice but I'm sold on the 03. I agree with the other comments, if money isn't that big of a deal, drive both and then decide.

Well thanks everyone. I am sure the 03 is a monster muscle car. Unfortunately none of the dealers would allow a test drive. I did however drive a nice 01. For a novice it was a true pleasure. It has only 14000 miles has a clean carfax and was only 22900$ I t runs strong! I thought that was enough power for a novice like myself and plus it was a good deal. I purchased it. I felt sorry for it sitting out in the cold! Hopefully I am still worthy to chat with you 03 owners but I am pleased with it. Thank you for your time and replies.:bna

There is no shame! Don't get pissed when a 03 spanks ya. I didn't even ask for a test drive. I was not disappointed. I kinda lost the love for stangs when the new sn95 bodies came out. They have since grown on me, and the last go around with the shape along with i.r.s. I had to have one. Oh yea, I forgot the BLOWER! I guess you have to take some things on faith.:allhail: :allhail:
