i am about to get a oil chg. and i am not going to use the dealer(too much trouble) so i have read where people are using this oil and that but wanted to know what oil you guys are using and why. i am not sure about syn. the manual say's not to. so i guess just motorcraft? also they need greasing dont they. i would do it myself but i the thing is too low to get ramps under to drive on. i also live in a warm climate.

Who says you can't use synthetic? The OEM spec is a synth. blend :P.
I use Mobil 1. Simple reason is because I always have, it's always worked, and on a performance car there's some data to indicate that it has slight advantages (as all the synthetics do) on the ragged edge. Otherwise, it really doesn't matter what oil you choose.
Get some Rhino ramps from Autozone or Checkers, or build one yourself: http://www.mustangworld.com/ourpics/News/mwramps/index.htm. I use the Rhinos and they are low enough to fit under the '03 at stock height. They fit under my lowered '99 as well.
I don't think there is anything that requires frequent greasing on this car. At least I haven't seen that in the shop manual or the maintenance logs. I'll have to look again :).

I've only used Motorcraft 5w-20w synth-blend on my 03 Cobra as well as my previous 02 GT. Never had any problems. I think you would be o.k. using a full synthetic as some others here have done. As long as your 03 is fully broke in the difference in friction modifyers shouldn't cause any problems, good luck with the ramps!:D
I just got amsoil 5w20 and their atf for the trans. I also got the diff. oil. I think Mobil1 rates very close though. I know that it will be more easy to get. I just want every edge that I can get out of a lightly moded car. I want it to last forever too. I know that won't happen but a least I can try.:spinem:

I'm with dwtalso, I have used Mobil1 synthetic in every performance car I have had.
Also, here's a handy trick to doing the filter removal a little less messy. Place a plastic bag around the filter as you are removing it, hold it there for a minute or so while the remaining oil drips out into it. This will keep the underside of your car clean as well as the floor of your garage.

Mobil 1 for me also. A lot of folks don't like using the 5w30 grade that Mobil 1 comes in now. Some say it's too thick. I don't agree with that line of thinking.
However, don't worry Mobil 1 fans. I've been told that Mobil 1 will be available in a 5w20 by spring! :bna

"Place a plastic bag around the filter as you are removing it,"..Great Idea! :)

went in and got it chg. at the dealer yesterday. the oil they use is ford 5w-20 syn. blend. the service guy said as long as you use this, if You have any warranty issues and they check the oil you will not have problems. so i think i am going to stick with what ford recomends, plus i think there enginers should know more about it then me.
btw i had to show them that it had grease fitting on it.

"btw i had to show them that it had grease fitting on it."
Somehow I find that a bit troubling........

yea, the guy running the fast lube, and i use the term fast lube loosely, was new and he didn't even know what svt was. i told him we are supose to get "premium" service ect.. i said this only after i was told that it would be 45 min till he could get to it. after he called up front to find out what svt was they got me right in.

Is this a place u would rely on to tell u what oil to use? As long as a oil meets Ford specs. they can't tell u what brand to use!! If they tell u different, get it in writting. I bet they won't do that.

I've always gone to the dealer with my Cobra because they use the Motorcraft 5w-20 AND I'm usually out of there in less than 45 mins. Plus they only charge me $23.00 for an oil change. I think that is downright reasonable.
