Texan Chapter Blubonnet Drive - March 23rd

Please join us on March 23rd for the SVTOA Texan Chapter's first 2003 event!

This event is a Bluebonnet Drive scheduled for Sunday, March 23rd. We will be meeting at Hwy 290 & FM 1960 and from there we will drive to Brenham as a group for a barbecue picnic and then head back to Houston together.

It will be $5.00 per head to pre-register and $10.00 per head for on-site registration.

The Texan SVTOA "Bluebonnet Drive" is an “Open Event”, it is open to Texan SVTOA chapter members, national SVTOA members and other “guests” driving SVT or Ford vehicles. It is also a family and/or significant other event so bring everyone along for the activity. With all the rain we had the past winter and the warm sunny days we have had recently, the bluebonnets, Indian Paintbrushes and other wildflowers should be awesome! If you fit one of the above descriptions, come on out and join the fun!!! :tmb:

The "Bluebonnet Drive" meeting place has been set to be the Sam's parking lot (I-10 Katy Fwy west of Fry Road, north side) at 10 am Sunday, March 23rd. Please bring your Motorola Talk About radios if you have them, they will come handy to aid in keeping the group together while we travel down the road. After the 10:00 meet & greet, we should be on the road by 10:30 am with a drive down I-10 to Sealy and then north on Texas Hwy 36 through Bellville and on into Brenham to the downtown city park. The city park has a pavilion for us to enjoy our catered Bar-B-Q lunch. The park has plenty of room for the kids to play so be sure to bring bats, balls, gloves or whatever the kids, big or small will want to play with in the park.

To pre-register for the event please contact Treasurer Ed Farcas (ewfarcas@yahoo.com) or Secretary Ted Loney (loneyt@autonation.com). Pre-registration is $8.00 per adult, $5.00 for children under 12. If you wait until the 23rd to register, it will be $10 per adult. The registration fees are to cover the cost of the catered Bar-B-Q lunch. We are trying to get a fairly accurate headcount for the caterer - so please pre-register if you can. You can send a check made out to Texan SVTOA for your pre-registration to Ed at 1723 Brook Grove Drive., Katy, TX 77450.

In addition to the lunch we will be having a 50/50 raffle. What is that you ask? Put a dollar into the jar and you get a ticket, put in thee dollars and get three tickets, put in seven dollars and get seven tickets and so on. At the end of lunch a ticket will be drawn and if the number matches your ticket(s), you win 50% of what was collected. The club gets the other 50% for funding future club activities.

After a relaxing lunch at the park we will get back on the road and drive Texas Hwy 105 to Navasota. From Navasota we'll catch Texas Hwy 6 to Hempstead. From Hempstead the plan is still developing. Originally the plan was to go back to Houston via US Hwy 290. At the March 8 meeting we all agreed that 290 could be on the boring ride, so there was discussion about taking the back roads instead (FM 359 from Hempstead to Brookshire or FM 362 from Waller to Brookshire). The final route selection will be picked the day of the event depending on what the group wants to do.

What about Rain-outs???……:confused:………In the event of rainy weather on the 23rd, a rain delay date has been scheduled two weeks later on April 6th. :D

We are off to a magnificent start in 2003! Thank you to everyone who participated today!

A special thanks goes out to our Activities Directors, Tony Scharp and Ted Fontenot, for getting this put together for us!
(and dang that was good BBQ!)

I hope that this is just the beginning for our group --- I had a blast --- and I certainly hope you guys and gals did too.

Please don't forget our next meeting (and dinner) at Guadalajara, Sat. April 12th at 5PM.
