Gas pedal location

Is it just me, or is the gas pedal on the car way too high.
Are the base foci the same way?
Granted I am a little long in the leg and big in the foot.
But it just seems like bad placement.
Mine is matched to the brake pedal. Which is fine for looks..
But uncomfortable for us tall folk !
This position also makes it awkward in a heel&toe.
Anyone else struggling with this ?
