for those of you not real happy with the stock shifter, i just had a steeda shifter installed yesterday. much cleaner quicker shifts with a shorter throw. they only cost about 200 dollars

I've been told by a dealer sponser that installing an after-market shifter, it would void your tranny warrenty.

Has anyone heard from Ford if this is true?

If so, has anyone merely swopped the rubber bushing for a metalic or other material to solve the spunginess?

No, installing a shifter will *not* void the tranny, or any, warranty. In fact, with the T-45's, an aftermarket shifter actually increases the life expectancy of the tranmission since the shifter's positive stops prevent shift fork damage. I believe the T-56 has internal stops but the stops on the shifter don't hurt and are probably stronger.

Swapping the rubber bushings might make the shifter feel slightly less soft but it will also make it alot noiser without any other benefit. The stock shifter is pretty much junk. My personal opinion is to just leave it alone if you're not going to swap it out.

I installed just the steeda handle, shifter feels just as nice as my pro 5.0 on my 96. The T56 has internal stops. The T45 does not. When my 96 went in for service, they would NOT fix beacause it had a shifter. Im leaving the stock base on there til the 3/36 is up. I have yet to miss a shift with the setup I have now, this includes the 2-3 shift.

I too am haveing problems with the 2-3 shift, especially when eng. rpm is above 5000. I'm going to try the shifter handle change-out like BRY SONIC 03 did,but I'm not to sure how much help it will be because all your changeing is the angle at whitch you are applying pressure to the shift mechinisum. I also intend to change out the original ATF in the trany for a full synthetic DEX-III. The reason I am going this way is because of Waranty concerns. One of the gentelmen at Ford SVT told me that it is up to the individual dealerships wether or not they honnor the waranty????? I don't Know. Don't want to take any chances.

You could always go with a MGW Shift Handle <http://www.mgwltd.com/mustang_shift_handle.html>. Gives the stock shifter a notchy, metallic feel. Should suffice for most. Just make sure to Loctite the threads on the telescopic handle as they tend to back out under hard shifting.

I installed MGW, very happy

Shifts are more percise now

I also turned my shifter knob 180 degrees on shifter. I own a 10th aniversary and this mod actually got my shifter 1 inch closer to my body. this helps alot since I am of small build,

but this cause problems with drinks in first drink holder going to 2nd and fourth

also shift pattern is upside down and drives my wife nuts
