Ken, you asked about wheels that fit on a Cobra and clear the calipers, these are the Cragar wheels I use, these are 15" and JUST clear the Cobra calipers, they are MUCH lighter then my '99 Cobra wheels (yes, my car is a '94, not a 99) :

Cool Greg...thanks, I will check them out! Hopefully they will also fit an '01 properly! :D :tmb:

They should, I am not aware of any changes made to the rear calipers on '01, but maybe they did make some change?

These wheels work perfect for my needs... 1.6x 60 foots on those tires/wheels...

I assume by looking at these that they are the 46/47 series. Cragar's website is LESS than helpful! It doesn't give size availability, backspacing, or any information needed to see if they would work! I HATE companies that think because they post something on the web, they have a useful website!

Does anyone know for sure the specs for the rear wheels of the 2001 Cobra? e.g. Minimum backspacing, etc.?

Yea, sorry about that, I bought these used from a guy with a wrecked 1995 Cobra, I had no literature on them. The backspacing is identical to my stock wheels. You can measure yourself what you backspacing is, but let me see if I can find some info for you...

Well, I seem to recall reading somewhere that the minimum that would clear the 99-01 rear brakes were 16" if you didn't want to do any filing. And I also seem to recall a figure of 5.68" for backspace, but that might have been on the front. I would ASSUME the back could be a little less since the brakes are not nearly as large!

It would seem this is a hard question. I've posted it on our local board, another Cobra Club board and The Corral, and haven't nary a guess. Why are MY questions always the hard ones? :(

I've left an email at Weld and at Cragar. THIS would be an EXCELLENT time for an "Ask an SVT Engineer" forum! ;) (which is something I have REALLY tried to stress would be a BIG, BIG, BIG draw to SVTOA membership if SVTOA National could swing it!)

Ah well...I guess I will get an answer Monday. :wtf: (Patience is NOT one of my virtues, as my many red lights can attest to! :haha: )

I would like to be able to mount some 10.5" ET Streets on them, or something similar.

What kind of 15" wheel do you have? How wide? What brand?

I have a set Weld's 15x10"'s that fit my cobra just barely. They work well and are soo light.

Unfortunately, summit doesn't allow direct linking. The type is a Weld Draglite, not sure on the exact part number. From what I am told they fit perfectly on all cobra's up until 2002.

I have a set of Diamond racing wheels, they are 15x10 with 4" backset.
They sit about an 1" out of the wheel well.Looks like 5" would be best.
If your interested you can have them for 50 bucks plus shipping.

Well, that is weird cause Weld told me these would NOT work on the 2001 Cobra. They said I needed the 17x9 with a 6" backspace. :( Oh, and Weld's price for these jewels? $346 a pop!

Thanks Ray, but I already ordered a set of the Steeda UltraLights. Both SVT and Weld said I needed 16" or 17" wheels for my car, and the UltraLights weigh less than the Welds. With the Steeda's, I don't have to buy new tires. I will just mount the 275-40-17 Nitto's I already have onto these wheels and use them at the strip.

Thanks for the offer though! I appreciate it! If I could use them, I would be on it in a second! :haha:

Glad to see you found wheels. 15" wheels will fit your car,not all but some do.I'm sure you will be more then happy with the Ultralights.

Have fun at the track! :D
