My '03 Cobra shifts fine in cooler weather (below 75 degrees) However, prolonged "stop-n-go" driving in traffic on very hot days results in some gear clash when shifting from neutral into 1st when vehicle is stopped. Momentarily selecting 2nd or 3rd before attempting 1st will usually prevent problem. Fluid level in trans is ok, and of course, Ford , in all their wisdom, has saved a few bucks by using a non-adjustable clutch cable. Any suggestions on fluid type/brand/viscosity to improve? Also, has anyone successfully installed an adjustable clutch quadrant kit from BBK or Steeda? Thanks for the help.

Good observation. I had experienced the same "clash" as you call it. Maybe a couple of times, but only when parking, or after backing up. Shifting to 2nd solves the "clash". Weird.

The adjustable cluth cable will make the car easier to power-shift. The stock cable puts the clutch engagement right off the floor. FOR ME, it is the primary reason I miss a gear. I am pulling the gear before I have the clutch fully depressed. The adjustable cable will let you bring the engagement up off the floor.

Take care,

Kevin

I agree the unadjustable clutch cable is the problem. I have been wondering about the aftermarket quadrant and adjustable cable kits also. I think that Ford should address this problem! My cobra was hard to get into reverse the day I picked it up, and hasn't got better. I have let a few of my friends drive it and they all have had problems with shifting also. I have missed third and fourth a couple of times, at 6000 and was not too pleased! I am going to put a tri-ax in this weekend, but I think that is only half the problem.:bash:

I've got over 10K on my car since Aug and my 2nd to 3rd shifts are horrible. The Ford service engineer was at the dealer last week I showed him with the clutch all the way down you have to push hard even with easy shifting to get it into 3rd. He even gave it a try and was suprised. The service manager called thursday and said to bring the car in and if the clutch is OK they will order a part. They also said they are going to swap the front calipers and pads left to right to see if the left front squeal moves, hmmm, I don't remember any of my other cars having calipers you could use on either side.
