I was on the fordtruckworld.com site and ran across a post about 02's built between feb and may. That might have bad connecting rod. There has been several problem with trucks with in these build dates. There is no recall at this time but ford does know of the problem. The rods in question seem to be #3 and #7 and ford seems to be fixing this when it becomes a problem. Some trucks had no mods at all on them. Some blown motors are being replaced with 03 engines. Even though ford will tell you 90% of these trucks had mods and they are making dealers aware of the different mods being done and everything to look for to find if it has been modified so they can start voiding warranties. So be very careful anytime your truck goes in for any type of warranty work no matter what it is they will start looking for mods and keeping records.:bash:

This is great....I spent 30K on a "premium" vehicle from Ford and all I have to worry about is throwing a rod and blowing a plug from the heads at any time. I really have that warm and fuzzy feeling when I have to take my 02 L on a trip. This stuff is really kind of of pissing me off because all these things are cost cutting issues that come back to bite Ford. If either of these things happen to me out of warranty they better not expect me to pay for the fix (at least not a good portion of it).....otherwise I smell a class action. With the small amount of lightnings, Ford should step up to the plate and change the heads on our trucks to the newwer version with more threads.
I am just venting so don't mind me, hehe.

My L was built at the end of May, te 29th to be exact. At least that is what my cert. says. I wonder if I am still included in the connecting rod scam? What kind of rods are they using in the L motors ayways?
