it would seem that way... every time I post something, there is rarely any response.

True enough, so I'll add something. I have a '98 with 143K on the clock that I bought new way back in the day. I had trouble shifting into 1st and reverse, and on advice of some buddies in my local SVTOA, had the shifter cable replaced (the bushing was completely gone!) last week. But the problem is at least as pronounced as before (although the shifts are much more precise).

I went for a test drive with my friendly mechanic, and he said that the clutch (or at least the pressure plate) is need of replacement. Now I can believe that, as 140 thousand miles is an awful lot for a clutch. I'm also wondering if they hadn't messed up the shifter alignment, such that it does not have full travel into gear.

Anyone have any experience with a similar problem?

I have to agree with you. If I need info I go to Contour.org. You just have to wade though some Bull S**t sometimes.

Besides contour.org, there aren't as many CSVT's left as the years go by. Mine is over 145K and nearing retirement (not worth putting that much money into such an old car, despite my powerful attachment to it).

Well I have three CSVT's, one that I bought new and looks like it just came out of the showroom. The other two are "special". I go to CEG quite often and really get tired of the whining, and some of the things that are done to their cars??????????????whew!!!

Whats up CSVTFGM! Some of the drama on the CEG can get annoying, but I just try stay out of it and soak in the relevant information.

Ignore the whining, some people have nothing better to do.

You actually don't need to replace the entire collett, you can pop the bushing out of the new collett and just replace the bushing. Replacing the bushing is much easier than replacing the whole piece. ;) They could have messed up the alignment.
My daughter lost her gears on her V6 SE (5 sp.) and used a cotter pin until she got the new bushing. ;)

Clutch wise, you probably already replaced it since your post was in March....The SVT clutch from Ford isn't in stock last I checked. For a stock feel use a LUK clutch, IIRC they made the Ford clutch, and if you chose, go with a Fidanza lightened flywheel.

My SVT has 102,xxx on the clock. I've changed the clutch and flywheel (stock SVT clutch with lightened flywheel) because I had the trans out. Might as well make it easy and do it at the same time, right? We changed the alternator also, it was literally a 5 min. job once the trans and crap wasn't in the way. Did that as preventive maintenance. Took the trans out to install a Quaife differential, Cougar shift forks and some minor stuff. Nothing was wrong with the trans, I just happened to acquire the Quaife so we went for it, big job with lots of parts labeling. :) Since I'm such a neat freak, I cleaned and painted the trans case while it was out.

What other mods have you guys done?

No one? It's been a while but I thought maybe this thread could be jump started again.

No mods lately. I finally sold the SVT Contour. I really wanted another SVT, but nothing like the CSVT is around. Instead, I picked up an '09 GT500. Now I've done some mods on that one:
1. Redid suspension (UCA, LCA, Tokico D-Spec shocks and struts, lowering springs, adjustable panhard)
2. Added the dealer-installable Sync option
3. Added the Ford Racing cold air intake kit (and dyno tuned)

I did the suspension work first, as I couldn't use the power the car made at stock, and the handling was awful. The car also needed the TSB done for the warped flywheel and clutch at around 16K.

Mods?, none here. ;) Ok well I do have some aesthetic stuff done the the black SVT (pre-98 sail panels, pre-98 antennae base, Ford badge on steering wheel, etc.). I have suspension parts and wheels waiting for install, so I'm excited to get those on.

I recently put the red SVT back to stock, so it's safe to say that there are not mods on that car! :D

David Mackler noted he bought an "09 GT500 and added the dealer installable Sync option. What does this option entail? Does the dealer actually put in a new steering wheel so you have the Sync controls on the wheel, like the factory cars with Sync have? The factory installed Sync also has wording that comes up on the face of the factory radio. Does the dealer installed Sync also do this? Lastly what does it cost from the dealer, parts and labor, to have it done on a pre-2010 model, which was the first year the Mustang had the Sync mounted on the steering wheel I believe.
Thanks to everyone for any information you can provide.

Hello,

The dealer installable version was an option starting on the 09 (not 07 nor 08). It does not affect the factory radio at all, well except that the "phone" button actually does invoke the paired phone over bluetooth. The steering wheel is unchanged also. There is a small cluster of buttons (speech, OK, and phone) attached to the dashboard and a microphone attached to the A pillar. There is also a USB port in the center console cubby. With my iPhone hooked up to the USB port, the current track/artist/album are visible on the radio's display. The total cost was about $900, about what it would have cost as a factory option, had it been available.

I do use it every single day, for phone calls, where the caller ID displays on the radio, to music and podcast, which I choose with speech commands.

Note that I do not have the navigation system installed, so it is just the regular Shaker display.

I ordered it from the Ford parts website and chose my local dealer for installation.

I'm glad to answer any other questions you may have.
