Engine Autopsy Concluded...

The autopsy on my '01 Cobra engine that died at Gingerman Raceway in September concluded that the oil pump failed and eventually seized up. The engine let go at 6000+ rpm heading into turn 3. I never saw the oil pressure gauge drop off.

Rod bearings and crank chewed up due to oil starvation. Hmmm, who would have thunk that???

That sux.
Did you have a proper oil pressure guage or the useless factory guage. I am planning to add oil pressure and water temp guages before I go back on track next spring!

Is the gear in the oil pump broke or was it oil starvation?

Don't know what came first the chicken or the egg. There was a lot of metal debris all through the block, pan and heads. The oil pump gear was shattered and wedged with the pump housing.
