Also watched it over and over again. Does the guy in the MR2 not know what a steering wheel or brakes are for ! How about some opposite lock to get the car away from the curb ! It didn't look like he was going that fast. More like he forgot he had brakes and just drove off the road in the direction of his burn-out ! And then people wonder why the cops give everyone a hard time about hanging out in parking lots and such. This is the reason why. I have seen it happen in person and just have wonder what they are thinking.

If you listen and watch closely you can hear him get off the gas and see the brake lights come on almost simultaneously. Why he didn't steer to the right or why the brakes didn't stop him is weird. Just turning to the right would have pulled him out of it, even quicker if he'd stayed on the gas. Then he would have been over-corrected and been off on an excursion to the right.

I believe I read somewhere else where the general concensus was he did it intentionally. There is simply no way you could lose control of this car at that speed. He had just taken off and hadn't even revved very high, and as everyone knows this car won't generate any torque at low RPMS. I think the guy had a grudge or something and decided to use daddy's car to take out his aggressions. Now he gets to be remembered by all as having it on film.

I don't know about it being "daddy's car", it sounded pretty loud, like it had one of those ricer mufflers on it. It also sounds like he bogs down off the line and/or goes for second gear real early. If he had any kind of power-enhancing equipment on it, like nitrous or a turbocharger, he could be making more than enough power for the size of that car. With a power enhancement and lack of experience, the torque-steer from the FWD could have surprised him. Imagine the scene if he had been drag racing with someone to his left! Or if an audience had been along the curb to witness it. Or both!

ok, maybe not daddy's car, but daddy's money. I've heard people saying torquesteer does this, torquesteer does that, but I think torquesteer is overrated. My SVTF is my first FWD car. I was told about all the legendary torquesteer problems with FWD cars. I've just not been impressed. The closest I've come to this is I got the tires really wet and took off. Only then did it slip out of line a little. The guy would have had to have been a total noob to have lost it due to torquesteer. :wtf:

Know what you mean about daddy's money.
Perhaps your halfshafts were designed from the gitgo by Ford to have approximately equal torsional stiffness. Or maybe SVT changes out the longer halfshaft with a stiffer (larger diameter/thicker wall tubing) unit. Whatever the guy's problem, it didn't look like he attempted to steer out of it.

yes, the halfshaft is stronger on the SVTF than the ZX3. Its not much of a change but perhaps enough to make a difference. I know I'm spoiled on the handling. I thought my old car had good handling but now it feels like I'm driving a truck. I guess the SVTF spoiled me.

actually, somebody needs to be given a geo metro and not an MR2 as their first car.

well, I just happen to be a big proponent of learn it to earn it. You don't give a new recruit a million dollar tank and say take off. Same practice applies here.

I raced Golfs and Sciroccos on a dirt track in Germany (was usually mud, great fun). You turn the wheel to correct torque steer.

hey guys i think that the mr2 is rwd. so there would be no torquesteer

MadMax

Kory, you are correct. The MR2 is mid-engine with rear wheel drive. Back to my original comments, the guy looks like he just doesn't know what to do as his car starts to lose grip and torque over. And you guys are right...he DOES hit his brakes and still manages to go off the road !!! I mean if that was me in that car I'd have at least attempted to not go off the road, or at worst hit a tree instead of somebody's nice Jetta. He drove between trees to slam the Jetta.....and hit it soooo hard that it pushed it out of its parking spot between the Integras !
