All -

I have been talking with a vendor about a group purchase on instructor <-> student communicator units. Personally, I'm tired of yelling into the chin bar on my helmet while attempting to make myself heard over an aftermarket exhaust. As a student I had a couple of instructors who used communicators and found it much easier to concentrate on what I was doing when I could hear my instructor clearly. SCCA requires that all of their instructors have a communicator when instructing in their HPDE events.

I've arranged two different possibilities depending on which product people are interested in. The first is the Chatterbox which requires that the headsets be purchased separately and the second is the Nady which includes two of the "student style" headsets.

Here's the breakdown:

Chatterbox Tandem unit = $53.96 (includes the unit, rechargeable Ni-MH battery, AC charger and headset extension cord)
Student headset = $21.59
Full Face headset = $21.56
Open Face headset = 25.16

Total for Chatterbox unit kit w/ student headset and full face headset = $97.11
Total for Chatterbox unit kit w/ student headset and open face headset = $100.71

If we went with the Nady PMC-2X, the cost would be $47.20 which includes the unit and 2 headsets.

All of the units will be shipped to me and I will ship them out to the participants, so figure around $8-$9 or so to ship to you or I can ship several to a single person in your area and let you go pick them up.

I need a minimum of 10 units of the same brand (either 10 Chatterbox or 10 Nady) to make the group purchase happen.

Let me know if you are interested.

I'm in.
Simple is better, which ever is easier to use has my vote.

From what various folk have told me, it's really a case of the Nady being cheaper but not lasting more than a year or two versus the Chatterbox being more expensive, but a better quality unit which will last longer.

I'll see what the majority of responses are in favor of and go from there.

I'm interested as well. Keep me in the loop. I will go with what the majority choose having no experience using these units.

I love my Nady, but students (and maybe even me!) have pulled the wires out of the earpieces over the years ... They still work, but either set you get, duct tape it together or Shrink Tube it for some support in "tension"

OK.... sorry for the long silence. The response has been, well, less than overwhelming. I've recently been talking with a couple of friends who are involved with other organizations in the hopes that I can put together enough for the group purchase minimum of 10 units.

So far, I have 5 units confirmed with an additional 2 awaiting confirmation. So far, those who have expressed a preference have opted for the Chatterbox unit. For those of you who have expressed interest on this forum, would you be so kind as to PM me to confirm your interest and provide me with your headset selections (open face helmet, closed face helmet, student headset) and your email address.

Hopefully we will finally get this done. I appreciate everyone's patience.

I finally have enough participants to make the group purchase happen. Everyone involved who expressed a preference chose the Chatterbox unit, so that is what I will be ordering.

If there is anyone else out there who is interested in participating in this group purchase, please let me know. I am planning on placing the order in the next day or two.

Thanks,
