I have an 02 Lightning with just a lower pulley and a Superchip chip from JDM. I was wondering if anyone else had problems with detonation while the truck is under load-like when the truck is in high gear with low rpms? I have 93 octane gas in it, which is all it has ever seen? Any help would be nice. Thanks, Andy

You need to call your tuner and tell him whats going on....sounds like he has too much timing going in......he can back that off, just tell him what you are experiencing.

What size pulley? Also did you change your spark plugs? Is it cold in your location right now? Did it start detonating as soon as you put the chip/pulley or did it start as the weather got cooler? Also did you try taking out the chip then re-create the situation and see if it still detonates?
Also detonation usually happens under high RPM full throttle runs, but I would not take nay chances.. Call the tuner ASAP, you dont want to throw a rod.

Thanks fellas for the quick responses, I really appreciate it. I suspect what it is, but I just want to see if anyone else has the same situation. Thanks again, Andy

I too have a JDM tuned Superchip as does Woody, i1again (Dave Laxton) , and a couple of others I know right off hand. I have not experienced any detonation at all since having my mods done. Nor has anyone else that I mentioned that I know of.

I am sure as mentioned by many others before me........no 2 vehicles are the same. SO with that being said, don't get discouraged with JDM and/or Superchips, just call Jim up and tell him what is happening and I am sure he will be able to correct it.

By the way, are you dealing with JDM directly or are you using a local tuner to get your mods done?

Anyway I just thought I would chime in. I am not "brand loyal" to any performance mod company, I just know that I am happy with the local tuner I use and the products he sells........although I don't exactly see eye to eye with him on the "caged or uncaged pulley" question...........he has been a wealth of experience and knowlege.
