Listen to this. I have a 96 cobra with most of the boltons and protons you can get. I installed a set of delete plates from Paul's high performance and got a custom chip from him. The install went pretty smooth until i tried to start it. The car would not run with the chip in. I called Paul and he said that the board was not clean so I cleaned it. Still would not run. Paul told me to send the chip to him and he would fix it. o.k. i thought the car will run without the chip. I does not have much bottom end power but it will run. I drove it like this for about a week, then one day i went to start it and BOOM!!!! It back fired up through the intake blowing the upper intake into pieces and the lower intake blew off the heads stripping every bolt out. That sucks! Anyone have any ideas? I am still scratching my head.

Yikes ! That is about the most awful thing I have read in awhile and is another reason I have not chipped my 03 Cobra yet. It sounds like your fuel pump flooded your injectors/cylinders with mega amounts of fuel, creating a friggin' "gas bomb" inside your intake and when you applied the ignition spark.....BOOM ! Maybe you scratched the circuit board during chip install ? Or maybe the chip messed up the fuel mapping of the stock ECU ( I never heard of a chip doing that though ) ? I dunno man, but you have my sympathy. Once you get your baby all back together again, if it has some mods on it, you should send your ECU to Steeda in Pompano Beach Fl. They now have the ability to re-flash your ECU using Ford Technology Transfer program equipment. They can actually program your ECU without a chip, to run as smooth as stock yet have all the proper fuel/air ratio for any type of power added modifications. It costs something like $399.00 to do it. They also advertise super quick turn around time so your car doesn't sit for a long time without its ECU.

O.K. I am back, but with not so great news. I took my car to a fellow friend (towed it) who is a mechanic. He got the motor all apart and no bottem end damage! Thats is good the bad part is new upper and lower intakes, new runners, new fuel injectors, and all new gaskets. It dosent sound that bad but go price a new intake system for a 96-98 cobra. We got it all back together and put a custom diablo chp in and presto! My car is running fine. So I gave pual a call At Pauls's hp and he wont talk to me! So i am out about 500 bucks from this so called GOD of all chips. My friend thiks the chip loaded my car up running terribley rich, and some fuel got on top of a cylinder amd well you know! So everything is looking good except my wallat I will try ro keep you updated.

Could you not have gone with a 99/01 intake and done away with the IMRC plates since you had to replace the parts anyway?

Sorry to hear about the damage BTW. That sucks.

No the ysaid the 99-01 intake would not work. I really dont see why the wont. I also found out that tge 98 intake is slightly different from the 96 and 97. It uses two less bolts on the inside of the lower intake so it flows better. Not a whole lot but when you have the two next to each other it looks like therre is a big difference. Thanks for all of your sypathy i really need all i can get, I still can't believe it happened.
