We would love to take our teenager to a performance driving class...

actually he would love it and our insurance co would love it!!:tmb:

anybody know of any events this year?

Or, how about if we figure out a way to add this event to an already existing event?

I have been giving a LOT of thought to developing a "young driver" program, either through SVTOA or my own Track Guys.

I see soooooo many young drivers out there who SIMPLY don't know the capabilities of their vehicle or simply lack the EXPERIENCE and understanding of what to do when things "go bad"! They teach kids the laws of driving, but NOT the laws of physics!

I had proposed developing a "young driver" program for SVTOA, but haven't been given the "green light". But, if I can hear from YOU, the MEMBERS and your interest in this kind of program, that could be the "show of support" that I need to approach the "powers that be" and get a program developed.

Parents with driving age children: Tell me if you WOULD be interested in enrolling your son or daughter in a one-day "young driver's clinic". They would bring their own vehicle (doesn't have to be a performance vehicle, just their everyday street car) and we would spend the day demonstrating and teaching them various aspects of vehicle control. The event could be held in a large parking lot or at some other driving facility (police training facility, race track, etc).

For those of you who haven't been to one of my schools, I try my hardest to make learning fun and engaging... making YOU think about what YOU are doing in the vehicle at all times.

Let me hear you if you would like to see this kind of program offered through SVTOA.

Thank you and thank you Bonny for bringing the subject up.

I know that the Bob Bondurant School in Arizona had a program for teens back when I was looking into attending. You might want to check their web site.

WE are in Jeff -

Let me know if theres anything else I can do to help this along.....

I'm serious!!

My son drives a 98 SVT Contour.

He is also quite capable of driving our Cobra's.

He is 16.

He's a very responsible driver,
but he has allot to learn and he doesn't really take me seriously (so what else is new....)

If he had to pay several hundred dollars for a one or two day class --

He'd take the instructor seriously!

Thanks Jeff - lets do it!

thank you for the info!
we considered bondurant - as well as Audi, they have a program also....
it may be pretty expensive, and Bondurant is pretty far away for us......

Putting on our own event may help cut costs a little?

Even if it takes us a year or so to get this put together - its worth it!

Jeff --

don't forget -

your still my hero !!

I have come a long way since Gingerman of 2001 ....
I will always remember those two days,

absolutely awesome....

Next time it rains, we'll probably be in Tim's 99 and I will be very grateful for what I learned those two days in my SVT Contour.....

In the meantime you might consider a defensive driving course. Most of the time this is the last step before you lose your license.Thats how I found out a long time ago.Its kind of sobering and mostly classroom stuff but I just sent my 16 year old "wild man "there and he has already shared some things he learned. Things like the other idiots on the road that wondered why he was at the class. And what to do when the ladder dropped off the truck he was behind on the interstate.Accident avoidance might be better than performance.I now do things that I would not do before after learning a little more about performance diriving. Its ok as long as the other cars don't do any thing unexpectedly and the cops are not around. My son has not slowed down though. He got pulled for 60 in 45 and showed his defensive driving certificate to the man and he let him go with a warning.I think it should be a law that everyone should take defensive driving. I think those Germans do before they are given a lcense.
