So my rear end exploded yesterday. I wasn't getting on it. Just driving normaly. Then boom. My diff cover has a quarter size hole in it. And yes I have a diff brace. Just thought I would share. Hopfully they will fix it under warranty cause I dont feel like spending any money right now.

Do you still have IRS? The cover may have fatigue.
I you don't have a IRS cover brace you should install one. It's good insurance..

Nevermind, I see you do have a cover brace..

It went boom because something inside broke - I don't think the cover being fatigued or not would matter, since it'd get a hole knocked in it anyway (cast cover).

As for the brace helping or not - it depends what broke. If you can determine that a gear broke because of the case flexing, then I guess having the brace probably reduced flexing somewhat and delayed the failure. If it broke due to a shock (driving habits) or simply the amount of power passed through it (actually, torque) then you might want to look into stronger than stock gears.

Well I got my car back, paid for under warranty... YAY!

But here is what they found:

found hole in rear end housing. Perform rear deff diag. remove readiff for access. Found ring gear bolts losse and one punctured case. remoce and replace housing. remove and replace ring and pinion, pinion bearings and races, carrier bearings and races, pinion seal and ring bolts. check and set pinion depth, preload and backlash.

They fixed that fast. It's great to see the warranty paid for everything.
