My better half and I are looking for a new sedan for her, we checked out the new Jagaur S Types based on the Lincoln LS format. The R version is a Ford 4.0 L with a blower. Wonder is the SVT team has the hands into this one. I think it had over 400 ponies.

Most of the auto magazines kind of poo-poo on the Jag Type-R because it has a slow shifting automatic and isn't offered with a manual shift like the M-5 BMW. For as much power as it does indeed have, it should go alot faster than it does. I don't think SVT developed the car. If they did, it would roast the tires and BMW M-5 !!!!

Uh, one othe rthing. I do not believe that the 4.0L is a Ford engine. I believe it is all Jaguar.

I took one for a test drive, nice ride, very fast, nice ride. Just wondering if the engine is truly a Jaguar concept or a Ford spinoff. Wife doesn't even want a stick shift anyway. That's why see likes my Lightning.

yes but ford owns jag...and long b4 the V8 program was started...and the 4.0L / 4.2L V8 in the jags...is the same basic 3.9 V8 that is avaible in the lincoln LS..;)

I am pretty sure that the Lincoln LS's engine was derived from the Jaguar design. I remember the big stink it made in the magazines. It's not a Ford engine. Just because Ford owns Jaguar doesn't make it a Ford. It's still Jaguar, Jaguar still runs Jaguar and Jaguar still sells Jaguars. When I see an XKE on a Ford showroom then I will call it a Ford. Until then, Jaguar is still operated as it's own entity within the Ford Corporate conglomerate.

Yeah, Ford's infusion of total cash/technology/quality control really saved Jaguar's butt. Before the big merge people were putting 302's in their XJ sedans just to get the car to behave in a reliable manner !!! That's no bull either, there were companies that specialized in the motor swap. Jag is really strong now and has some beautiful cars in the showrooms. The S-type R is a great high class, luxury grand touring sedan with emphasis on luxury first....1/4 mile performance second. It doesn't even have a limited slip/trac-lok rearend . I drove my sister-in-law's Jag XJR Supercharged sedan once. It was pretty awesome from an acceleration standpoint, especially for as big/heavy as it is. The only Jag that I think is not worthy of the badge is the X-type small sedan. Too much Ford showing in that one for close to $42,000 loaded.

After taking a closer look at the dealerships You'd have a hard time telling the differences b/w the the engines w/o seeing a label. When you open the hood the engines are laid out the exact same way.
