What was OEM , did it vary by year, and what tires work best on the car?

It probably varied by year.

My 2000 came with BFG KDW's, in an odd size (215/50-16, I think).

It drives GREAT with these tires, but the downside is that they are pretty noisy, relatively expensive, and sometimes hard to get. Oh, and they wear out quickly too (very low treadwear numbers).

I couldn't get a set last time I needed one (national backorder for months). So, I ended up getting some 'Traction T/A's, or something like that, from Tire Rack. Much cheaper, much higher treadwear (440 A A) numbers. OE size.

Initially - it's obvious that the sidewalls are much less stiff than the OE tire. The car wallows in turns where it would normally corner with confidence. They still wear out twice as fast on the front.

So, in a year or so when I need another set I'll probably try to find the OE tires again.

Best regards,

Early cars came with Goodyear Eagle (F1 I think)- 205/55/16.

Later cars, as above, B&G KDW, 215/50/16.
