Who else is sick of the wheel hop from their GT500...Well I am!
I don't think it should be the responsibility of the owner to fix this(for what I think) factory defect. All I want to know is if Ford is going to recall this stupid problem sometime soon. If anyone knows or has any ideas I would like to know.

I wonder if this is specific to Job-1 builds...I know that Job 2 builds seem to have a different suspension tune. Mine is a job 2 and I have not yet experienced wheel-hop (just now got my first tank of fuel through it!) When does wheel hop seem to take place-during a launch from a dead stop or under hard throttle out of a corner perhaps?? I'll try it on mine and see if it does the same thing you and several others are experiencing and get back to this post. you are right though, If this is a problem, Ford should at least install the FRPP (ford racing performance parts) rear susp kit-if that fixes the problem-perhaps a TSB could be issued for those who go back to a dealer with wheel hop??? I know that there are a few things that go into wheel hop "issues"-like shocks, spring rates, bushing "give", trac bar lengths, etc.
Having done a great deal of drag racing, I know how frustrating and embarrasing!) wheel hop is. It probably won't be one thing that fixes our problem, probably WILL cost alot, thus Ford probably turn the obligatory other cheek on us like several times in the SVT history. Maybe the after- market (i.e., Steeda, Roush, FRPP, Hotchkis, etc) will once again fix a lack of suspension testing and engineering at our expense, of coarse. I have been hearing that people on this board are trying a few things...I am sure some fixes will be showing up in the next few weeks.?
Wheel hop!! Welcome to our world!!

:haha:
I'm sorry, but I have to laugh.
After hearing so many people justify the solid rear axle for the GT500 by blaming the '03/'04 Cobra wheel hop on the IRS.
Heck, the standard Mustang GT has wheel hop! Just watch the commercials! And they were on wet pavement!
As vger said, "Welcome to our world!"

LOL..if Ford didnt have to recall the IRS wheel hop in the 03/04 Cobra's. They wont have to in the Shelby's either.

my '03 has wheel hop if I do a burn out in 1st gear but if I do it in 2nd it just melts the tires. I dont know if thats really the differance of it it was just the road surfaces being different or some other factor.

Hey, let's inform rather than belittle. You have to remember some people getting into the new Shelby may be new to the mustang in general and do not know some of the history and genetics of the mustang.
Allot of people are also new to high performance pony cars. Lets be informative rather than critical. I'm a little disappointed. My guess the person who posted will not be back to SVTOA.
As to the problem this is has been an issue for a long time for may pony cars with lots of power. SVT Cobra, Camero , Z28, and the lists goes on. This is not a fatory flaw but more the case of giving you a car that will try and balace performace and daily driving.
The problem can be address many ways and often not by the manufacturer.
Launching the car at a lower RMP for an example can help dramatically.
The 08 model of the Shelby will have some suspension updates that may address some hadleing issues. No matter what you do to the car you can get wheel hope unless you what to modify the vehicle to be a drag car to reduce wheel hop then you will loose some of your daily driving comfort.

I have both and honestly, Ill take the IRS for the street but not for the track. As TBSVTOA has said, wheel hop has been around since day one and so has the different methods of controlling it. So far, I have not had issues with my 08 but, I have not pushed it that hard. It is important, no, impairative you get the feel of your car and how it reacts in certain circumstances. Its not always about the car, its about the driver.

These whole wheel hop thing is an enigma to me. I have 27,xxx miles on my car and have driven close to 1/5 of those on track and have pushed the car to the limits of adhesion longitudinally and laterally and have NEVER experienced it. I have run on the stock street tires as well as tires with a 30 treadwear rating. I guess I've been lucky?!?! I am glad to say I haven't had to share your bad experiences, but I have no clue as to why.
Anybody else have a clue?

Which track is that, Drag or Road Race?
BTW... How does the Bondurant drive on the track?
The IRS is great for the Road Course but not the drag.

As a newbie I have to agree with this. My 2008 GT500 is my first REAL performance car. I had a 2006 GT before this one with some mods, but I never got crazy with it or raced it. The same with a 1991 Z28. Not the case with the new car. :D I have roasted the stock tires on my GT500 without chattering from wheel hop. I'm still considering installing LCA/UCA as well as an adjustable panhard bar for safe measure, because I'm planning on installing my Pro 5.0 3.73 gears.
We all have to start out gathering knowledge from experienced people, and if the first experience is negative we most likely will be discouraged and quit. That doesn't promote this group's goals IMO.
