I ordered my '03 Black Cobra Convertible back on 03/08/02. Finally got my build date of 01/06/03. That was way longer than I expected. I'm hoping it is worth the wait.
Anything I should be looking out for? Breaking-in recommendations? I should take delivery by the end of January.
Well Happy New Year!

Congrats Nick, you will love it. Only things you need to look for are dogs running right out in front of you and causing $1600 in damage. Mine is in the body shop right now:(

Excellent news. I saw a black ‘03 convertible sitting in the showroom of my local dealer and it looked sharp. The only things I can advise personally, is to check for a squeaky driver window and condensation build-up on the left fog lamp. I had those two things fixed under warranty N/C :D. Make sure tires are inflated properly, mine were delivered at 25 psi !! Also the oil level was close to the end of the dip stick. Traction Control is another issue, some advise to turn it off at start up. I do, sometimes, all depends on road and weather conditions. Check some threads about TC for further info.
Break-in? Not needed in this car. Just drive and have fun. I figure the first few miles is to get to know the beast, get used to 6 sp. then just open it up. This Cobra is like nothing else on the road. I had beaten a couple of M3’s, they weren’t even close.
Good luck and post some pics when you get it.

Thanks Frank, bad news for your ride, but probably worse for the dog. Hope your back on the road soon.

Thanks for the info Waltman. I'll post some pics when it comes in. I tried to post my '66 but I think I screwed it up - the other thread by me :( Hopefully I'll get it right.

Nick the only thing I did not like about the 03 was waiting for the dealer to call and tell me it was on the lot waiting for me. I'm sure you will love everything about this car. Like Waltman say's just be safe and have fun. Remember this snake likes to strike at anything on tires. Rachrse

WOW, that really sucks you haven't even been able to really enjoy it. I dropped mine off at the dealer for its first oil change and had a pro pack put on so it stayed for two days and I thought I had it bad. Winter is really going to be bad having to just look at it and not drive it. Oh well winter doesn't last forever just seems like it.

njnick, just got my 03 black cobra coupe on 12-21, the dealer had four cobra's instock. One of them was a black convertible, not that far from you. Philadelphia area,if you deal doesn't work out.

NJNICK, I took it easy on my 03 Mineral Grey for 2000 miles ( No rev-limiter hits ) and varied the shifts/rpms all through the band. The cars really start to loosen up at about 2500-3000 miles ( shift better, feel faster ). I got first oil changed at 1200 miles, next one at 4000. Mine was built in July of 02 and purrs like a Lexus at idle. I do have the squeakey drivers window ( like lots of folks have had..either side) but I'll get that fixed whenever. This car is too much fun to take in for any extended length of time !!! When you go for your first test-drive, when your baby comes in, make sure you bring a change of underwear !!!

That's good to know. Is the dealer coming off sticker?
When I ordered mine I got the last of their allocation of six (3 coupe, 3 conv).

NJNick,
C&C Ford in Horsham, PA also has 2 Cobras on their lot. One black and one yellow. I spotted them yesterday. Horsham is about 15 miles north of Philly

This is pretty suspicous...My car 03 came with 25 lbs in each tire. I mean 25..on the dot..Why would SVT do this..short term handling increase?
As for traction control, unless you are already used to this beast, I'd recommend leaving it turned on until you get used to the power. After 1,700 miles, I turn mine off on dry days...but NEVER on the rainy ones.
I must admit...I am addicted to the power...:p

Yes njnick, the dealer was below stick, ($2000.00) having problems moving any inventory. Springfield Ford in Springfied,Pa.
Wasn't bad, in and out in 2 and a half hours, and all I was their for was to look, That's what happens when I go and look>;)

 $2000 under sticker! Now I see how much it cost me to get mine this past June! 2 grand to have one of the first ones out. And I even had to go out of state to get it!
Oh well, it was worth it! Tell me it was!:wtf:

trmn8er, If your Happy with the car then it was worth it. No matter what anything costs, it's whether the person buying it is satisfied. I would have paid sticker , maybe more , if that was the case, because I had to have one after I test drove it.

Well to let U know, the SVT Cobras are starting to pile up on dealer lots, I got mine (Dark Grey coupe) for 200 under invoice... and I purchased it on credit cards (cost dealer about 1.5 - 3 %) and I get 1% cash back for the purchase.. (yes IM cheap!!!) Just shows the dealers are starting to get hungry even on these cars. Most Dealers in DFW Tx have at least 2 on the showroom floors. I have a Mercury Marauder as well. The MM sold really well at first but most dealers have at least 3-4 on the lots and the bottom is falling out from under them on price.. afraid it might happen to the SVT Mustang.. Hopefully I wont take a bath in this car but I must admit all the ponys under the hood are fun!!!
wow sounds nice! It takes a while to get use to shifting with the cobra, but it is a really good car. Don't be afraid to punch the gas and let the supercharger kick in " man! does it fly "

I picked it up last night. Nice night, about 12 degrees, but hey, this car is hot. All I can say is WOW! But, what's with the shift light? I can't wait till Saturday so I can go for a long ride in the daylight.
I'll try to get some pics over the weekend.

Yea, that shift arrow is a real joke. We paid the the gas guzzler tax - they should have reprogrammed it for max accelleration:)

Enjoy - I still feel like I did when I first got it back in Oct - always looking for an excuse to go drive. This car is worth every penny.

I just got an '03 red ragtop (01/02/03). I had waited over six months for one to arrive. I traded in an '01 Lightning. It was tough to do. I sure love my new red cobra. Can't wait for the weather to inprove so I can drive it more.
