Has anyone tried reducing or removing the center web inside the mass air meter. How much of it is extra material is not important to the function? Does the sensor run through the web or halfway through the web?
Trying to justify purchasing and aftermarket Mass Air Meter. :wtf:

I don't know the particulars, but I seem to remember someone trying this a couple of years ago on a '99. It did not work.
Best to leave it alone and keep it as a spare, or for smog tests.

I had to remvoe mine dur to the BBK CAI wouldn't fit with it in place, could have been a fluke limited to the one I have but anyways, the mesh screen has been gone for 6 months now with no noticeably problems. I don't think it made any difference positive or negative and if it were me, I would leave it in since there is always the slight chance that if a particle were to slip through your air filter, there is the possibility of serious damage to the motor.

JMichael...
Look around these boards and the ones at The Corral. I've read several posts, re: bad after-effects of removing the screen (and/or reshaping the sensor for better flow). The screen supposedly helps from what I've read, smoothing or "straightening" the airflow for a better sensor reading with the factory setup.
Definately better off going aftermarket.
Speaking of MAFs...
1. Has anyone tried one from Granatelli Motorsports? They talk a great game on their site, re: calibrations, design, etc...and the price is twice that (over $600 list) of competitors.
2. I have a problem and I'm curious to know if anyone else has experienced it and what the fix might be...Both with a home-made ram-air (I bagged it when I found a cigarette butt in the airbox) and the now-installed Mac fenderwell CAI, I get a bog when blipping the throttle on downshifts. Tap the throttle a few times and it goes away. Not a huge problem, but annoying. I would guess the factory MAF calibration doesn't work 100% with the air intake. Any ideas?
Thanks...

I took U Tink's advice and went with the Pro-M. Install was simple and the car idles great. No dyno or track numbers yet.
Thanks for the input!

Hey Mark...this is off topic, but do you do any fossil collecting up there? If so, I would be interested in maybe meeting up with you here for some collecting, then meet up with you there. We have some Cambrian sites here if you're interested. :D
For the rest of you, please ignore the above geekese...thank you. ;)
