There is a possibilty that we may be able to attend an on track event at the road course in Lancaster, SC the weekend of March 22. It is being sponsored by the Cobra Owners Association, not SVTOA, but we may be able to join in the fun! It will be a Driver Training event with a lot of seat time on track! This message is to gauge interest from members from this area. The cost will be somewhere between $300-$400. If interested, please reply to this post. More info will be coming as it becomes available.:D

Great News!!! Just heard back from Cobra Club and we are invited to attend their High Performance Driving School at Carolina Motorsports Park on March 15-16, 2003 in Kershaw SC!
To register for this event go to svtcobraclub.com and scroll down to the information on the event. Print a registaration form and send them a check for $270.00 for two day event or $150.00 for one day! The event is limited to 60 participants, so the earlier you get it in the better. I will be there for both days! This is not an SVTOA event, but it is a way to get our cars on the track and see how an event like this is run. This event is not limited to Cobras, it is open to anyone who has a desire to learn High Performance Driving Skills! My checks in the mail! Further info to follow:D

Can we run our own trucks or are we using thier cars?
tomsgarage

Yes, you run what you brung! As they use to say in Nascar! This event is on track with your car or truck. All I can tell you is that this will be one heck of an experience, and this is what your SVT vehicle was built for!:)

Yea I went to thier site to check it out. I have downlaod the form and will be sending it in very soon. I was looking for thier track rules section but have had no luck in finding it. Sent email to John to see if he could help. I am sure we will need helmets. I just do not know what esle might be required. Looking forward to some fast curves.

i tried to find the rules also, could not find them. I was told that the cars and trucks will have to pass a tech inspection, and may have to be inspected by a dealership before they arrive on the track. I beleive this is to make sure that the vehicles have enough brake pads on them and the suspension is ok. As I get more info I will post it. If the vehicles have to be inspected I will see if we can get a break thru our service dept at Bob Bennett Ford in Columbia SC.
Look out for a 03 Mineral Gray Cobra on the track, its me!
Post more info as I get it!

Carolina Motor Sports Park has a very informative website. Now if I could just find it.............I will try to make it but I opened my mouth about a St pats day parade in Columbia on the 15th.The price sounds good because we were qouted about 3000 to rent the track and support last year.;)

I forgot about the parade. Did you get us signed up or is it still in the air.

The celebration in Columbia is going through more changes than SVTOA has ever thought of,I think. However I have put the President on notice that we will be there with a class act.Maybe some body doesn't want to abuse or push there ride and just wants the fun of the parade. Any thoughts?I want to go to the track, though space is more limited at the trackthan the parade.I have asked for price for our group to participate in parade.I have not got an answer. I think they might even pay us if we did some charity work.

Hey guys,
Im from JAX FL but I may make the trip up to your on track event. Have a 99 and an 03 Cobra but will probably drive the 03. I lived in COLA for 5 years and I understand what you mean by the St. Pats events. used to be a pretty big party but I hear it has calmed down quite a bit.
This would be my first on track event and I look forward to putting the Cobra through some turns!
Hope to meet you guys then.

This event is put on by the SCMC (SVT Cobra Mustang Club). The events packet will be on the website this week so you can get all of the track rules then.
You will be required to have a helmet, a pretech inspection, and an on site inspection. The hotel information (about $60.00 a night) will be in the events packet along with all the necessary information you need for a safe, fun event. It would be a wise thing for you to bring extra brake pads, both front and rear. I would suggest putting new pads on and using your current ones as spares.
Currently, we have about 38 Cobras/Mustangs signed up so space will be limited.
The URL for Carolina Motorsports Park is www.carolinamotorsportspark.com
I drove my 94 Cobra there this past week and reached a conservative speed of 95 mph. My 99 Cobra would probably see 110 mph easy.
For more updates you can check our website listed above or visit our bulletin board at www.svtcobraclub.com/svtbbs2/

Hey Cobrabitin, if you rode with Gary Tolbert, you did go for a wild ride! He is my down the road neighbor, friend, and customer. He bought both of his Cobras and Lightning from me. I have seen what he has been doing with his cars from day one! He is a great driver, hopefully I will get him as an instructor! he is the one I blame for my 03 Cobra, just kidding! Look forward to meeting you all and some great driving experiences!:)

Beerkat, great to see you are going! It will be well worth it!
How many SVTOA members have signed up for this event? If you are going, post a reply on this message board and maybe SVTOA members can get together and go over other events that are coming up this year!
Look out for a 03 Mineral Gray Cobra Coupe on track! It will be me with a BIG Grin on my face!:D

Can a convertible participate without a roll cage? I didn't see anything in the application that said a roll cage was required, but I thought it might still be required.
Looks like a lot of fun for the money!

I am working out details with our service dept for pretech inspections, will post the info when I get the details worked out! The inspections need to be done two to three weeks before the event. Trying to work it out for a saturday prior to the event, maybe combine it with a local chapter meeting of SVTOA members so we can put faces with names! What do you all think?

After reading the first two posts about tech day inspection, we have decided to change it to March 8th. Hopefully this date will work out better. I still need to get and idea of how many people plan to attend so we can set up a schedule. Please reply to this post if you plan on being here. Again this is open to SVTOA and SCMC members. I hope to also get some special pricing for brake pads and any other items that are needed. Our Service Manager is still working on pricing, and as soon as I get thatinfo I will post it. Hope to see a good turnout!

I have a few conflicts for the 15th.Will the one day school be run on Sunday as well or will it be only sat for the one day? We also might be in the ST pats parade.Brett Bodine and the Hooters Ford are scheduled to be in the parade.I also put a bug in Hooters ears in case they need something to ride in.Nothing like a Lightning loaded down with HOOTERS.

i think you can do Saturday or Sunday as a one day event at the driving school. It does not specify on the enrollment form. In the past, I was going to go on a sunday, and Gary Talbert (one of the instructors) said it would not be a problem to come on Sunday for one day!

I have been out of town. I sent my check in last month. I have yet to receive any conformation on my spot in the school. If you do not get a enough people for a Saturday inspection can I setup an appointment to get one done during the week? Look forward to meeting you. On another note We are getting together on Saturday Feburary 8th in Mt. Pleasant for a chapter meeting and a cruise afterwards. You can get times and directions at our local chapter website. try and come and bring any other SVT member or anyone interested.

Just got the word from our Service Manager, the cost of doing the inspection for the On Track Event will be $59.95 ! The time to inspect the vehicles according to the check sheet required for the On Track Event is about an hour and a half to two hours. The pricing is to cover the cost of the SVT Techs time on Saturday, in other words, Bob Bennett Ford is doing this as a service to our SVTOA and SVT Cobra Mustang Owners Club members! Now I need a head count of who will be here on Saturday March 8th, so we can setup a schedule, and also to plan how many techs to be here!
Also, I am planning on asking Gary Talbert to be here. He will be one of the instructors at this event, and he should be able to tell us what we are in for!
We are also setting up some special pricing on any parts that may be required on your vehicles. Will post that info when I get it.
Beerkat, checked out the website, looks great! Sorry I will not be able to attend that meeting as I have to work that Saturday (sell some cars to afford my Cobra!)
If you keep checking the message board at the SCMOC website, they will be posting a list of people who have signed up for this event.
Lets get ready to have some fun!!!!:D

Hey everybody! I just got back Carolima Motorsports Park. I got to meet Mickey Clyburn who runs the facility and he gave me a tour of the track. Michelin was doing a tire test, but when they broke for lunch, he drove me around the track in his truck. It was awesome, even in a truck! It is a fast, with sweeping corners heading to the back straight away, and a very technical section on the front side where we will learn a lot about handling our cars and trucks! It has plenty of runoff areas, so we should not hurt ourselves or vehicles. Remember, it is a driving school, where we will learn how to drive our vehicles at speed!
I will have info tomorrow abot the tech inspection at Bob Bennett Ford on March 8th. Right now I only have two confirmed members coming to the inspection! My service manager will give me the final answer tomorrow about wether we can do it with such a small turnout! If you are planning on running the event and coming to the inspection March 8th please email me a tomsgarage@aol.com asap!
Beerkat, got you email, I will let you know!

I MAY be in the area for the 22nd of March, but surely won't make the dealer inspection on the 8th. Not to mention, I'm not a member of ANYTHING in that area. Nonetheless, is there some way to make arrangements to be able to participate in case I CAN make the 22nd? I'm seriously itching to get to the fun part with this car, aka track time. Thanks...
