I have a 99 SVT Contour for sale, its black with tan leather interior.
160K miles, KKM Induction kit, custom exhaust.

it developed a noise yesterday, that doesnt sound good coming from the motor.. Kelly Blue Book on it in fair condition is a $4400 (which I am only determining because I dont know the motor problem everything else is in good condition, leather interior has normal wear on it, and the sunroof motor needs a new gear which is $55 from www.sunroofgears.com, drivers seat has a tear in it, everything else is good and clean. )

I am asking 3500 OBO because anyone who has mechanical skills might be able to better diagnose the problem.

I am located in San Antonio, TX. I love this car, but I guess it didnt love me back. It also has new headlights on it and an aftermarket alarm which is setup to arm, but I havent wired the door poppers to it so you need to use both remotes, one to lock, and one to arm it.

I dont want to see this car sit here broken.

If you are interested call me

Not to be a prick, but that's a DOHC motor, it shouldn't have lifters.

not to be a prick either but they have hydraulic lifters, DOHC just means its dual overhead cam

***reference below email from engine builder***

Steve,

Typically lifters going bad is not a common problem with this motor. Being that they're hydraulic lifters, they have a pretty long lifespan. Most tapping noises related to the duratec are a sign of a rod bearing getting ready to let loose as that's the most common failure. Either way, you're in for some significant work on the car and possibly needing a replacement engine. You could try running a compression check and leak down test to see if you can isolate if it is a valvetrain issue, but beyond that, you'd have to pull the cams and check each lifter. The other option is to drop the pan and windage tray to see if you can wiggle any of the rods a significant amount showing that a bearing is about ready to spin.

Sorry I can't be of more help than that, but without being there, I can't really help diagnose a noise over email.

Thanks,
Rick
