Anyone have info or advice on what to keep the exterior black abs plastic clean with? The spliter is not too bad, but the behind the wheels is driving me crazy. I would think with all the care products Ford has out, they would have something that might repell the dirt a little.
The only solution I've come up with is Meguiar's Quick Detailer Mist and Wipe, and to leave it dry. I would think any type of vinyl or rubber dressing would just compound the problem. Got any ideas?
The same goes with the wheels, any driving at all (mine hasn't been in the rain as of yet) and the wheels are more a charcoal than silver...and all brake dust...wow, any cleaning and/or washing tips? To date the two washes I've given it, it was just light spray and a lot of time wiping. Again, most cleanings are with the Wipe and Mist.
I can't believe the products Ford has out for cleaning and care. When I was going through the manual (No, I'm not that much of a nerd, well ok I am. But I am a pilot and was on a trip, so the next best thing was going through everything) it has tons of products. Has anyone used any of them?
I did purchase the trunk net for the convertible, it works great, and is good quality. It will need a little adjusting when the JL Audio sub goes in the trunk though. It's a shame Ford couldn't make the 1000 system fit in the 'verts, but it looks as though the Shaker 500 head is coming out and a Pioneer Z1 Nav is replacing it. Again, anyone have any ideas?
thx

I have used the Mequiar's also and it works the best of anything I have tried. The brake dust is the worst I have ever seen. I've tried a cleaner that is for repeling brake dust but it didn't help. On another site, one guy found the best solution, he changed brake pads. Too expensive and too difficult for me to do myself. Mine hasn't been in the rain yet either. The worst problem is the wheel hop. I am going to replace the rear LCA's with some BMR billets hopefully this week or next. I'm hoping the will solve the problem so I don't have to replace the upper also. Love driving this beautiful car though and would have a hard tme ever getting rid of it.

Adam's makes a very light spray wax called 'In & Out Spray' that does an excellent job of making black plastic stay clean and black. It seems to moisturize the plastic somewhat. You can wipe it down after application and it's compatible with whatever you wax the rest of the car with.

I'm a little confused on the Shaker 1000 not being in the convertible. I just picked my 500 vert up last week and the 1000 is in the car and the sub in the trunk. Takes up a little room but it sure booms. A little Dynomat is going to be needed.

When I placed my order and deposit in mid-2005, the dealership came back in the end of 2005 and said the Shaker 1000 and Nav systems weren't available for the verts, :bash: so I had to remove these items from my order, or it could be removed from the line. So I did. It wasn't until late 2006 manufactuered cars started coming with these options, which really kinda sucked and kinda didn't. I'm not really one to keep an orginal sound system in a car anyway, so it was actually ended up saving me some money.
I'm going with a Pioneer Z2 Nav, some new Focal and an JLAudio trunk sub made for the vert, completely DynaMat the interior and box up all the original stuff, seal it, and store it.
In earlier posts people we talking about what all they use for thier car. On another site that I post to daily, I learned about Turtle Wax ICE paste, liquid and spray detailer.
I've got 6 coats of Meguiars Gold on the Shelby, so I'm going to wait a while to try it on the body. But I've used the ICE paste on the hoses and all under the hood plastic and you can't believe how great it looks. Absolutely no residue, no powder of any kind. It's definitely a great product. It's a polymer compound, so it can be applied in direct sunlight, not that I'm going to waxing my car in the hot Texas desert sun. But it's nice to know.
I now use all Meguiar's detailing products for inside and outside. I use the Eagle One wheel cleaner and it works perfectly. And I finish it with Hot Shine Tire Spray by Meguiar's
I only use a lexan plastic cleaner or PlastX on the head and tail light bezels, never glass cleaner.
And absolutely never use any type of commercial car wash. The other site that I mentioned had pics from one members side vinyl stripes tearing off from too much pressure. And the detergents will strip the wax in no time.
I use the Mr. Clean wash system. Not being driven in the rain, helps a great deal.
Hope this helps.

for all my exterior needs, I use ONLY Zaino products. I have been in the professional detailing business, and used EVERYTHING you can get at your parts store, and just about everything not availible to retail, and I always come back to the Zaino products. They have a product for just about every surface and situation (inside you car and out). Plus, the help that they give you when you need it is amazing. These guys come from a show-car background and know how to make stuff shine and last as well. Look them up and read the all the info on their site. I have also used some Groits Garage products and have no problem with their products either. I seriously think u guys should try at least one product from Zaino, and I think you'd never buy a polish/wax from the local part store again!!!
www.zainostore.com is the link where I order from. Hope this helps!!

I have an '07 GT500. In the past I've used Zaino products, Mother's back-to-black,and also use Meguiar's quick detailing solution and interior products. For the black plastic surfaces, I've found the new Turtle wax Crystal polish is great! It can be used on everything except glass and plastic lenses, and has no residue whatsoever. Easy to apply, also.
No, I don't work for Turtle Wax.

Since the beginning of this thread...and about 4 months ago, I switched to Turtle Wax's ICE also and love it.
The paint is so slick, nothing sticks to it and the black and all under the hood looks great with it...and no residue!
And I don't work for Turtle Wax either.

This is an older thread. Any updates on the products you have been using?

I've been using the ICE product on my ride and cannot complain. Goes on easy and comes off the same. With every coat, the shine gets deeper. When I get water and mud splash it washes off with just a spray from the hose. Where I live, it is hot and I have well water, there are a lot of mineral deposits left on the car after washing if you're not quick with the wiping. The detailer is the ****e. Mineral deposits come right off. It's not so noticeable on the white but on the ebony...
