Finally got to order my GT500 this week...I guess it'll be a job 2 build, as I got to opt for a DVD based nav system. After calling SVT, i found that there is also a new suspension tune as well...Anyone know of any other changes to job 2 cars? By the way a "manager" at a dealer near Tulsa told me that all of the GT500's that are going to be built are built and there are only giong to be gt350s from now on....I faxed him a copy of the order my dealer did for me, and then tried to call him to show that I indeed ordered a gt500...he has not taken my call! I wish Ford would shut down dealers that lie like this! They are trying to make all the money by scaring and lying to people-I have heard so many outright lies about these things from different dealers...Ford should be embarrassed to associate itself with these shops! One guy told me that he had to charge 20g over MSRP to cover his cost of becoming an SVT dealer, I asked him which mechanic he sent to SVT school and he told me that all of their 23 mechanics went to SVT school this december!! Another lie. I could post another 10 or 12 stories like this, but I'll save those for later!!

Congrats on the order. As far as I know those are the only two changes. I was lucky, I dealt with an honest straight up dealer on my deal

Congrats on your GT500 order! You will love the NAV system as its an excellent unit and I highly recommend it. Now if I could only program it to make it quit snowing, the sun to shine and..
There will be approx 10,800 shelbys built. cars were added in a big part because of shady dealers jerking people around and having them think they were getting car but actually were not. Some dealers took funds then sold the ordered car to someone else willing to pay more.
Most dealers are clueless and could care less about shelby except it gives them big $$ signs in their eyes. lol

From what I understand, SVT is very much a live, but SVT dealerships are dead. I believe they just announced a 2008 GT500 that will be the same as the '07. And the rest of this model year will be the GT350. Any dealer can order these cars (most are too stupid to know they can). But that's where being an informed buyer comes in. I found one of the best dealerships I've ever been in about an hour from my house (Smith Ford, Slaton TX). We came to an agreement 14 months before they ever came out with the car and I was emailed with info all along the way, and they cound have taken my car and made another $15k easily, but didn't, they kept their word and when I came to pick it up, they introduced each mgr of every dept and gave me their cell numbers, and each guy was very geniune in saying to call anytime, for anything. The lady handling my sale, which I had never actually met face to face until the car came in said they do that for all SVTs. I felt like I was buying a Ford GT. Of which they've sold more of than the GT500 when I picked mine up.
I would never take my GT500 to just any dealership for service. I may have to drive the 1 hour+ back to the dealer I bought it from, but believe me, it's worth it. They're very knowledgable in SVT and cater to us "pickier" customers. People at my local dealership won't even speak when I walk in now (going to parts), that's because all they want to do is rip people off. They have about 6 mustangs gathering dust in the front of the lot, 2 which aren't even regular GT's striped like GT500's, one is so bad, the put a goofy hood scoop on top of the hood and put "Boss Hoss" on it. The others are striped GT300 and are going for sticker plus... Now that should be illegal.
I found out years ago with my McLaren Mustang that you never want to leave it alone. Not for a second. And I've found when you sign for your service, it's a great idea to present, and have the Maint. Mgr sign a document saying that the vehicle is under his care and responsibility, and if he won't sign it, take it to the Gen. Mgr of the dealership and tell him his mgr won't sign it and for him to sign, and if he won't sign it, don't go there and turn it in to Ford. You can bet if the maint. mgr signs something saying he is responsible for a GT500, he'll dang sure keep his eye on it.
I put the time, date, mileage and condition of vehicle, plus what it's in for.

Well I don't know about you, but when I picked my car and took delivery, it wasn't something sitting on the lot. Before now, a dealer had to be certified to sell and service SVT vehicles. That is no longer true. Unless you know something I do not. But it is nice to know that the dealership that I purchased from still holds a high standard for the customers of SVT vehicles.

Sounds like some of you guys are fortunate to have found some dealers that ford should be proud of!! I am not sure if I'll get my Shelby as an 07 or have to wait on it as an 08. Either will be fine with me. I too finally found a dealership that is actually a large dearler in a pretty small town. They have been operating with the same owner and family for like 50 years. They have been forthcoming with the information, but they don't get alot because their rep is apparently not very educated on the whole SVT thing, much less on any factory info from Ford as to production numbers etc. I have had 3 SVT's since 01 and am lucky enough to have had only one trip back to the dealer for any service...(clutch TSB on my 03 focus). The tech that did it was in fact SVT certified and has a couple of show cars. The focus came back without a scratch! We did "go over" the car with a manager to verify that the car had no scratches or flaws. I do like your idea McLaren644 about signing an agreement-it sad that it has to be like that. I was aware that SVT dealers no longer exist, but this dealer actually got an extra GT and Shelby for being one-lucky for them!!
Hey crimsonii, does your NAV system/stereo sound good-I don't think we can combine the Shaker 1000 with the NAV system?? I think that NAVs are of the 500 watt breed?? How does the revised suspension tune ride? I dont really care i guess, but I have read that the Job 1 builds were a litle soft and have excessive nose dive when the big Brembos are at work!
If I have to have any service done, I may have to drive to Texas to fine a decent shop! Not sure how far Slaton is from OKC, but it could be worth the drive!!
I just wish my freakin car would hurry up and get here, and it would warm the hell up around here!!!
Thanks for the replys guys

Slaton is just outside of Lubbock. And holler if you ever do make it down that way and I'll try to come up.
It's showing I didn't do my homework as well as I should have. Not really needing a Nav system out here in the desert so much, but in my 'vert, the Shaker 500 is a little weak. I'm looking at replacing it with a Pioneer Z1 Nav head and adding a JL Audio trunk sub. It's about like the 1000 Trunk sub the hardtops have, just a little bigger. The 'vert owners were told that the 1000 system was not available. We're also going to DynaMat the entire interior. They did that on my McLaren just after installing an all new system and it made more difference that the system did. It cut the road noise down more than I would have ever believed. :)

I think a great many GT500 buyers have had bad experiences with dealers. I too was lucky and found a small dealer who kept his word on price and everything, even though he could have sold it out from under me. Depending on delivery date you may still get a 2007. The 2008's don't start til June. I have heard conflicting stories on the suspension change, but I think it may only be a twicking of the shocks or something. I wish they would come out with some better rear control arms, both upper and lower, since the wheel hop is so bad you can't even drive the way this car was meant to be driven. I will be replacing my rear lower control arms very soon, but Ford should replace them for us.

I got my GT500 from an out-of-state dealer who had no clue about SVT, but had a short waiting list. Had it shipped a couple weeks ago. It arrived with no dealer prep. I'd like to get the wheel locks put on, oil changed, etc.
I am now looking for a local SVT-knowledgeable dealer, but nobody carries the SVT nameplate anymore. Any chance anyone knows how to locate a good dealer in the Boston area?

I would call the dealer that you bought it from and have them run a search on your zip code for SVT certified mechanics. Ford still has that certification program. I also bought mine out of state and I did that and they were able to give me an SVT certified mechanic in the DC area.

I Bought My Shelby From A Ford Dealer That Was Also A Saleen Dealership. I Think You Should Find A Ford Dealer Who Sells Saleens' In Your Area. It Would Be Your Best Bet To Find A Qualified Mechanic.

How do you know if you have a build 2?

Not sure exactly...When I was told that mine was in, I looked on the dealers website and viewed the window sticker-mainly so I could get the VIN to my insurance agent before I drove it home...the "sticker" that i printed from the site had "job #2 build identifier" listed on the same side as the options. When I got to the dealer, I looked at the real window sticker on the car and it didn't have anything on the sticker at all refering to Job 2...I called SVT and they confirmed that it was a job2 by using the VIN. Long story short, call SVT, and they should be able to help-I have had good luck calling them for the few questions I have had...

This is what happened to me. I put a deposit down, had a state recognized contract and, they sold the car to someone else. Made a trip into a dealer this week with a friend who was interested in one. Dealer had 2, one of which Im pretty sure has been there since October. Buddy asks what the ADM is, 20G. Buddy is now looking at Vettes. This whole deal is doing damage to Ford and to SVT.

There are tales like yours everyday...this no doubt has gave bad reps to these dealers and it should!! I have heard about this crap from all over the country!! Me and my family have bout no less than 23 fords since 1984 and many from one dealer-I think that is what helped me get a good deal on my shelby. However SVTIM, ther are quite a few dealers out there who have them right now and 08s are being ordered. I'd bet you could find one for +5k or at least around that. Some SVT related sites are frequently showing posts from forum members ot dealer that are willing to sell for MSRP right now. I know of three dealers within 30 minutes of Oklahoma City that have Shelby's on the lot right now. Take a little time and I bet you could get a good dealer willing to get you going! PM me if you want, and I'll get you some numbers to call and get you some other sites where people are posting about good prices!
