Just out of curiousity, do the 1993 through 1995 Lightnings have a speed sensor in their rear axle housings?

Yes they do, not that I drug this out of the archives.

So, I would assume the symptoms of this sensor going bad would be the same as for the Explorers/Mountaineers, Rangers/B-Series Mazda where the speedometer needing starts bouncing out of wack or not moving at all and causing major shift issues with the transmission. A friend's 1994 Lightning was having problems not too long ago and the same transmission was rebuilt TWICE only to continue having erratic shifting problems. I've already pointed this issue out to his. I have not heard back from him in a long time to know if he has fixed the problem, yet.
