Does anybody know exact parameters (like viscosity etc.) of the stock transmission oil used in Focus SVT?. I need this information to replace the stock fluid with a compatible synthetic gear-oil to improve shift quality and especially shift consistency. I am a little disappointed at how my transmission shifts especially when it is cold outside. First it gets too stiff, then after about 5, 10 minutes almost perfect but when I drive for more than an hour it seems the tranny oil has been replaced with water. One may think it is unavoidable, but try going to Germany and driving a rental car there and the transmission feel is way better (at least in the Seat Leon 1,6 I drove which is a very average car in Europe).
I think it may be at least partially due to a better tranny-oil used in European cars. I wonder if we are getting screwed here in North America by car companies putting cheap oil in manual transmissions because they think we don't know any better. I read on another web forum that the so called "fully synthetic transmission oil" used in Focus SVT is just a marketing lie. I also don't think it is a "proper" synthetic based on how the transmission feels. Your advice and thoughts on this matter are appreciated.

the tranny fluid in it is synthetic so I doubt you are gonna see any improvement. You should take it to the dealer and have them check out and possibly adjust the shift linkage cable. if it is shifting notchy that would be my guess.

Charlie:

Let us know what you discover, especially if you take your's to the dealer. I've noticed also that the transmission in mine is, at times, difficult to shift.
