I want to replace my flexible brake lines on my 2001 Cobra. I will be using stock pads and rotors.

I like the idea of braided lines. Any suggestions?

Neil. You can never go wrong with upgrading the lines stock pad or not.

I used the KB line that are coated as well.

If you track the car at all or even autox its worth the the upgrade.. Front and back.

The stock lines tend to flex leaving a soft pedal when there should not be. The upgraded line will increase the pedal stiffness and give you better response.

The stock configuration has worked well for me even when driving Open Road Events (120-148mph). They are five years older now.

I think braided replacements will worth the effort. Even if I change nothing else.

Does "KB Line" have a web site.

I have the braided lines from Maximum Motorsport on the front of my Bullitt (same brakes as the 01 Cobra) and I like them. They appear to be well made, were easy to install and were definitely worth the money. Unfortunately, they don't carry rear lines.

BTW, when installing the brake lines on the front, it is very important to make sure that the wheel does NOT contact them at any time. Put the wheel back on and turn it lock to lock to make sure that it does not make contact. One of the participants at Summit Point this year lost his brakes while heading into the Carousel because his front wheel rubbed a hole in his front brake line. He made the turn, but I think his instructor needed a clean pair of shorts .

KB = Kenny Brown: http://www.kennybrown.com/

I don't know that you'll be bale to get them there though as the company is closed. Try Maximum Motorsports: http://www.maximummotorsports.com/

I ended up buying the Russell Street Legal kit for Cobras. It is working great.

I need to know what load rating the original tires on the 2001 Cobra were. Any body know the brand (Goodyear) and model of the OEM tires? and what the specifications were?

Man,, I had an 01 cobra but do not remember the model. Goodyear F1 I think.

Little Story on original brake lines. I ran stock for a very short time. Im note sure of everyone driving habits are but I can tell you mine. In a 01 cobra or even my 03 I could fade the brakes @ sebring in less than 3 laps / no brakes with the stock lines and high temp fluid and pads. I stopped using them when the stock lines ballooned and separated from the nut. needless to say that's not good. (HIGH HEAT)

Now. I drive very hard and brake as late as possible trail it when I can get away with it.

A braided will at least give you a firm pedal and give you a real response to faults if needed.

The best lines , fluids, rotors, and calipers are nothing if the pads cannot take the heat. e.g My bad experience at Homestead. Good Lines, Fluid, rotors, but the pads just gave up on heat. The pad got so hot it felt like fade from fluid boil but its was not. The pad got so hot they just glazed and offered very little stooping power.

I would have to left foot pump the brake before each braking zone to the floor and would get just enough to the response from the car I needed. The one component included in the braking systems that help make that possible was a braided brake line. that brake like gave me just enough response too be effective. I can tell you a stock like will not give you that.

Of course I had bigger problems. I had to fix the initial cause of the brakes getting that hot. How...! Bigger better designed rotors, Betters pads, forced air to the rotors, and adjusting my driving syle in such heavy car.

I think the OEM is Goodyear Eagle (???) ZR17 245/45

I do not have access to look any right now. Can some one look it up, or comfirn that they are 95Z load rating.

P.S. I think any upgrade on pads (hotter pad) should alway include braided brake lines for any SVT Cobra.
