Stupid question I know, but is it really going to be impossible to purchase one of these cars for msrp? If I walk into a Ford dealer this weekend and ask to place an order for a GT500 will they just laugh at me? How is this going to work?
Thanks!

Actually, I think we'll all be laughing at you first.
:haha: :haha: :haha: :haha:
Seriously, at this point in time, I don't think you could even buy one. I hear that the waiting lists are longer than the next 2 year's production lists.
IF you actually find one for sale, then price WILL BE way over Sticker.
You know you're in trouble when CNN has done an article of what people are willing to pay for a GT500.

LOL....that's what I was afraid of. I guess it's better to be laughed at and made fun of online than in person ;)
So, it will just not be possible to get one unless you are willing to pay WAY over sticker...assuming I was willing to wait 2 years+ is there really a list that you can get put on at Ford dealers? How much money does it take to get put on the list? Is this some type of nationwide list or is that just something at each dealer?
Thanks again for your insight.

scoop up one of the many 03/04 cobras being sold by idiots paying way too much over sticker for a GT500. You'll probably even be able to find some that have been tastefully modified for cheap.

I may do just that.... I have my eye on a few in the mid/low $20k range...that is ridiculously cheap! To think I can buy three 03/04 Cobra's for the price of one GT500...pretty darn crazy. ;)

I got mine for MSRP but got in early. I have noticed the 03/04's are not cheap. Seems the GT500 craze has upped the price of these cars too.

yep, part of Ford's marketing plan is to up sell on hype and then discount on the back end....it ends up being a wash at the end. meanwhile other more fiscally responsible car companies end up selling cars with steady low inventories to keep demand in check. probably end up making more in the long run.
Did you try looking at a small town dealer?

Wait ,in one year the hype will be gone.
For now, there are enough people on the lists for two model years. I believe the hype will die down. I think that Ford is being blamed for the hype when in fact it is the consumer that generates the hype. So I think this anger I hear is misplaced.

Didn't this sort of thing happen with the 03 Cobra as well? IIRC there was the same sort of gouging going on when those cars came out too and now look at them. They are reasonably priced IMO. To have one of the first ones would be really nice, but I could handle waiting a year to pay $10k less for a car.

Yes, I believe you are correct about the 03's. But by the time the 04's came out, the new Mustang was already being shown and interest in the 04's and leftover 03' wained. I am not sure that will happen for next years model and in fact, many 07 Shelbys are rumored not to be delivered until late thia year or early next year. I turned down an offer for 4500 over MSRP. I wont pay more than that (MSRP)

On ebay, there are people auctioning dollar amount over MSRP, so if someone wants the GT500 in question, they are buying 'rights,' as in the stock market. These guys are looking at $20000 to $40000 over MSRP. Sad thing is that there are takers too. The 'I want it now folks.'

They are out there, one just sold at my old dealership that wasn't ordered for anyone. It supposedly went for $75 big ones. Too rich for my blood I'll wait a year or so.

I don't know if they are still taking deposits, but you can email the person I'm dealing with at the dealership I've had my deposit with for almost a year and see.
They were going for 5K over when I put it in, and when it got crazy and some were as high as 20K over (see my post in price gouwging) they stood by their "verbable" agreement. That says a lot about the people that work there and the dealership. I don't know them, never even met my salesperson, haven't done business with them, but I'll make the drive from now on if that's the way they do business.
