The rumor mill reports a three year run of 07,08,09 Shelby GT 500 Cobra SVT-nonSVT, non-Cobras... :jawdrop:
Does anyone else have different info?

What a boob! From a purely business perspective, this is a terrible financial decision! From a car lovers point of view it is completely irrational... therefore it makes sense!!!! :spinem: There are plenty of folks here who have spent $5K... $10K... or ??? on their SVTs. they will NEVER see those $$s again!

Is ANY automobile purchase rational?
Let's face it. The moment you drive a vehicle off the lot it depreciates.
The only reason so many collector cars are increasing in value is because there are too many irrational people with too much money, willing to throw it away on an automobile.
Something is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it.
I remember people (Including the US Government!) paying over sticker for the first PT Cruisers! I wonder what their resale value is now? :knock:
2 years from now, that $78,000 GT500 will probably only be worth ~$30,000!
:haha:

bhartman is exactly right...when the PT came out is was $5k over list, how insane to buy something with emotions, but if someone has that disposable cash, and they are happy, then do it.
But don't kid yourself, if you purchased a GT500 this year as an investment, you'd have to lift it off it's tires and drop it on a flat bed, truck to a secure, climate controlled garage and not touch it for about 20 years to get your investment return.
Go price one of those blue/green t-birds that hit the market a few years ago (of which they have already dropped the tbird). The same thing, so called investors snagged them up paying as much as $20k over list. If they've been driven any at all, they are in the low 30's now, not a good return on a $50k purchase.
I plan on driving mine weekly, like I have my 88 McLaren Mustang and when it comes time, I'll have this one restored just as I did the Mclaren and enjoy it all over again.
Now if it will just get here, and with the Shaker 1000 audio system.
I was told from the dealer that all orders with the 1000 system on their order sheet will be pulled from the production line and not built until they have either resolved the issue with the convertible/Shaker 1000 system or changed the order to the Shaker 500. Pass that along if you know anyone with a convertible on order.

Just like the 05 Mustang GT ; they were selling for 5 to 8 over . . . Now theres rebates on top of factory pricing . . . My local dealer has some inside broker & has sold a black coupe & has a comp orange vert comming in tomarrow ; they want 75 , 000 for the vert ... they also are blowing smoke that a Ford rep. @ the Oshgosh Air Show ( big Ford Display ) stated that they are only making the Shelby this year only & w/ the Boss / Mach packages to follow in either order the next two year sequence ... Any insights or is this just TRASH !!!

I have spoken with one Ford rep and read everything I can get my hands on. All of the info I have located leaves me with the perception that the GT 500 will run for 3-5 years. I am hoping to get a 2009 model year vert and clean up/store my 04 Mystic IF that is the case. Otherwise, there is a used 2005 Ford GT for sale nearby. I may sell my baby to buy this bad-boy! :bna $110,000 is just a bit beyond my budget unless I sell the Cobra... :frn:

I just returned from the Ford dealer in Pittsburgh where I purchased my '04 Cobra. In the showroom surrounded by a barrier of felted rope was a yellow GT500 convertible with a MSRP of $48,590.00. The car sold for $65,000.00.
The car looked nice, but not as nice as hype makes it to be. The cobra emblems are just too big and too plastic looking to the point of gaudiness (please don't scold me for this -- it's just my opinion).
Recently I saw a Shelby-H in Daytona, Florida. Compared to the GT500, the Shelby-H has more class and style.
I understand why they put a Cobra emblem on it, but why put a Cobra emblem on a car that is not a Cobra??

Vger, I'm not sure I understand what you're saying. If you understand, then why the question?
Marcobra, I guess it was kind of confusing. I know it was put on to honor Shelby.
I have ran into so many people with a G.T that had put the Cobra emblem, hood and bumper on it (or just the Cobra alone) and said "look I have one too." No matter what they do, it still is just a G.T. Remember the G.T and the LX back in the late 80's? a lot of people bought the LX and loaded them up with the G.T parts, it was still an LX.
Maybe I'm just rambeling on with a pet peeve now.
Everyone I run into thinks the G.T 500 is a Cobra but It's not.
Is it a nice car? YES. Would I buy one? Maybe. Would I trade in my Cobra for one? No. I think the Snake should be reserved for the real thing. Just my 2 cents.

Vger, OK. I see.
The GT500 is not a Cobra, as determined by Ford. The Cobra emblem, however, is a symbol of performance and muscle, which started in 1968 with the Shelby Cobra Mustangs (actually earlier with the AC Cobras). Ford put the Cobra (an over sized one too) on the new GT500 to further market the car as the new ultimate Mustang. Remember, image is everything.
People need to understand the new Shelby is just a trim package. The car is not made at any special facility and there is not a dedicated Shelby team of engineers. The car does have, however, a powerful engine, but the performance is not proportional to the horsepower, as it is marginally faster than an 03/04 Cobra.

The Shelby was designed, engineered thru SVT by SVT. SVT is still SVT. Ford is cutting cost and taking SVT, FPG, FR, and TM and rapping all under one roof =>$$$$.
Yes not named a Shelby Cobra or Cobra to keep with the lineage of the GT 500.
The engine is built in the Romeo plant and stamped by the same builders just as in the past. SVT is still SVT. There is still an SVT team headed by Hau Thai Tang and lead engineer Jay Oconnell. The Shelby is still assembled on the same Mustang line as all the SVT Mustang Cobras of past.
I thinks its more than a trim package. If it were just a new facial and spoiler I would agree. But were looking as a new suspenstion, drive train, interors, and body trim etc.
Really a new breed of Mustang just as in the past when shelby help ford entry the performace market and racing curuits back in the 60's
I would say the biggest change is SVT is now more mainstream rather than a seperate group and there is no special dealer network program as there was for SVT.
The main differance now is no specific SVT dealer network.
