I'm replacing the extremely worn rear pads, and I'm having trouble getting the piston to retract. I have the tool, and it installs and seats fine, but the piston just won't turn and retract. I tried with the bleeder open, no help. One book says to remove the e-brake cable first, but doesn't say why. My other book says I don't have to. Could that be keeping the piston from retracting?
Any help appreciated. :allhail:

I've changed my rear pads a 1/2 dozen times and never had a problem with turning/retracting the piston. I only use the cube tool on a 3/8 rachet too, always with the bleeder screw closed and the parking brake cable disconnected.
Sounds like the piston is frozen on your calipers

That's what I'm thinking, too. I did wear the pads all the way, so the piston was all the way out. Don't see if that mattered, but maybe.

yea if you cant move the rear pistons at all the need to be replaced. those can be a real pain and they are a horrible design. think about upgrading it may be worth it.

Make sure the lid is off of the brake fluid tank. You may need to get some of the fluid out of the rear lines to get them fully seated. Be sure to twist and push at the same time until they are completely seated.

always open the bleeder on an abs equiped car, if you dont, it could send debris into the abs controler and make a mess of things.

Thanks for the advise, guys. I did finally get the pistons retracted. It just needed a breaker bar on the dinky little handle on my piston retracting tool, then all went fine.
I'm happy to report that those pads have given up half their life to help keep me out of the gravel traps. :D
