I have a 2.81 pulley on my blower. When I stomp on it and run it through the rpm range I get some smelly stink like belt slippage. When I look around the belt guard I see black dust from belt wear. The car and belt have 5K on it. It does not seem to have any appreciable impact on performance.

1) What is the life of a belt?
2) Should I replace the rensioner? Ford or aftermarket? I would like to avoid "advertising" I have modified the car.

With a lot of slipping the belt is going to glaze pretty quickly. When your boost starts falling off it's probably done :).

If you are talking about replacing the OEM belt tensioner, that's a possbility and should help, but I don't know how much. Reichard Racing does make an adjustable tensioner. If you really want to keep the belt guard you could also try a non-slip pulley. Otherwise, the best results I've seen come from an aftermarket idler pulley, but that requires the belt-guard be removed.

I have a 2.8 and have not seen any slippage with or without the steeda idler.

I am going to attempt to modify my stock pulley cover to fit with my steeda idler. It looks like it can be done. I will post some pics when I get done.

Opinions on the modded pulley cover. Looks stock to the unsuspecting. :) :)

I should have bought one of those covers with the cobra stamped out of it. But I am happy with it none the less. Lets see the dealer feedback when it goes in for the vibration and recall.

If he's like my old SVT dealer, he'll probably try to void your entire warranty! :guns:

That came out great! If I need some more belt tension that is the way to go.

I have seen alot of combos and this seems to be the most painless, cost effective, and easy to install. The idler is from Steeda. My 2.81 pulley is also a steeda steel unit. I think it was 119.00. I does not necessarily give more tension but alot more belt wrap (About 80% vs 50%) which eliminates the slippage. You can run the idler with the stock belt. I used a new belt that was about an inch shorter. My tension is right in the middle.

Is that a Densecharger CAI I see in the picture? I have one and the filter rubbed a hole in the intercooler lines. :bash: I had to take off the elbow in the fender and put the filter on straight (still in the fender). Did or do you have the same problem and how did you fix it?

NO it is a Demolet Tunable induction. I will have to take a look at the interference with the lines. I know I had to move them out of the way a little. Thanks.
