Has anyone noticed a slight increase of blower whine at idle as milage on the car is increased?

What milage are you talking about? Only have 1500 miles & no noticeable increase. I wonder if the oil in the blower can be changed? If so, I'd put in AMSOIL & see what happens to your noise.

I got the car in July and I love driving it I have 10k on it the noise is not really bad but it's a littel more than usual I do have a 2.93 pulley may be that's what is doing it.

I just noticed it today. Car has about 3k miles now and it definately has more whine at idle and at low rpms. Not worried, should I be?

I don't think we should worry, but I am going to call SVT Monday and ask? Your car looks good. I'll e-mail letting you know what SVT says!;)

elculebra how long have you had the 2.93" upper pulley and have you experienced any slippage problems with it? thanks.

No Slippage noticed, I am running the Gator belt so slippage is a none issue for me.

I've got over 7500 miles on my '03 and haven't noticed any change at all in blower whine. If it keeps up I'd let your dealer take a look at it.

Are you running a smaller pulley?

Check for a vacuum leak on the drivers' side of the engine near the fuel rail. If there's a leak in the bypass vacuum tubing, the blower wine at idle is significantly increased (because the negative pressure, open loop would be disabled for the blower at idle). It's easy to test, if you pull the vacuum boot off of the bypass solenoid and the blower wine doesn't increase, you've got a leak (which if significant, you should be able to hear as a hissing noise). If the blower wine noise does increase, it's probably normal but you should get it checked out if you're concerned. This assumes that the car is stock and you haven't done any boost bypass mods.

You'll also get a little more blower noise after installing a CAI kit.

Just wanted to post an update in regards to my Whine at idle! Took betsy in to my local dealer and they agreed that the noise was not normal they checked it out and determined that my noise was due to a tensioner pulley gone bad go figure. The car sounds new again. thanks for you replies I guess thing aren't always what they appear.

Hey El Culebra,

What did the dealer say about your 2.93 pulley? I gotta know!

He didn't say nothing. off the record he said it won't harm the blower the lightnings have a similar pulley. They can't void my warranty unless they absolutley can prove that was the cause of the damage. It's up to the dealer the dealer I have down here is pretty nice folk. I'm going to mis them when I move to Texas. ;)

I had a bad idler pulley when the tech took the belt gaurd off he just looled at me and smiled. He replaced the pulley and we took the car for a ride to make sure it was fixed. Yes I let him drive and he had a big grin the whole time. Rachrse

The statement "It won't harm the blower the lightnings have a similar pulley" does not make for a very mechanically intuitive individual but I'm glad he's mod friendly. We have some nice dealers here in Texas too ;)

Your entitled to your opinion don't judge a person by thier statement this guy has been down to SVT for training and races as well as builds Ford engines that have folks in ah. You won't find anyone that will say what you want to hear. They can't elaborate further due to liability issues. If you blow an engine he said" There is a procedure that they must follow" even if the guy was my brother. I think what folks are looking for is to modify thier cars and drive like maniacs and not pay a price. just my 2 cents.

I wasn't flaming you (or him). I was just making the observation that the 2.93" upper pulley on the Lightning, if moved to an 03 Cobra will spin the Eaton M112 much faster than on the Lightning because the Cobra revs much higher and I believe it also has a larger crank pulley. You did say the dealer said it and not the mechanic so perhaps it isn't such an out-of-the-ordinary statement. No offense meant. :tmb:

I'm sorry I misunderstood your message my apologies, especially if I am to move to your neck of the woods. I am expected to show up to a new job in Texas. I started to have regrets but the more I watch the news in Cali in regards to all the political BS higer taxes the unemployment rate is at it's highest level in years. Oh I'm sorry this is a SVT forum sorry for the long winded message. Maybe I might run into you.

Hey DaveSVT03,

For what it's worth, I just installed the Basssani catback on my stock Cobra. Really nice sound. It has a sound like my stock '01, which was much loader than the stock '03.

The Bassani stainlees steel system has straight-thru glass-packed oval mufflers with silencers in the exhaust tips.

System installed easily by myself and used first quality SS hardware.

I'm pleased.

Whatever system you get, I would make sure that it is SS!

trmn8er,

Thanks for the advice. I hope I get to hear the bassani on an 03. We have a local SVT meeting in a couple of weeks, so hopefully someone will have that setup. I'm not buying anything that aint SS:) :)
