My nephew had the same problem. His was corrected by replacing the gear on the end of the speedo cable that went into the tranny. He talked to a trans shop and told them what set up he had and they told him what to put in. The change out only took a few min to do. Hope this helps.

The '99+ Cobras have an electronic speed sensor, so no speedo gears in the tranny :). If you have a chip on the car then you should get your tuner to update it for the gears and tires. If you don't have a chip your options are a chip :), a flash tuner (e.g. Predator, SCT), or an electronic ratio adapter (I used a Dallas Mustang Speedcal on my '99).

I have an Abbot ERA on my '98 for my 3.90's. When doind Open Track events, I notice that over 100, the needle starts swinging wildly, ramdomly, from 40 to 110. Have you ever heard of an ERA doing this, or is my speedo head bad? It's been like this for years, but I put the gears in right after I bought it, so I don't know if that's when it started. :wtf:

Could be either. I've heard of ERA going bad although I don't recall a failure mode like that off the top of my head. I'd bet on the ERA but if possible I'd disconnect the ERA and test the car. Your speed will be off but it'll eliminate one variable.

I'll see if I can bypass it next month. Just never bothered me enough to fiddle with so far.
