View Full Version : Rumors floating around the Motor City...

You guys say you want "news" and we do the best we can to provide it.
I do not like to post "rumors" because they get me in trouble. ;)
This one's juicy though...
As I understand it, there has been a strong lobby/push by some un-named members of the former SVT Marketing team to get Ford to reconsider scrapping "SVTOA" as a name for the club. So strong in fact, that this is actually being considered as a possibility. A lot of other things would have to happen but it's NOT OUT OF THE QUESTION that "SVTOA" will possibly live on in some form or another.
All I ask is that I don't get BBQ'd by some of you if this does not come to pass. I wouldn't even mention it if I didn't think there was some teeth to it.
If SVTOA does indeed "survive" it would not be the same structure as we are used to, but hey, it's still a glimmer of hope in a sea of uncertainty.
Apparently there was a meeting that got rather heated and "eventful"
If I hear anything else, you'll read about it here. Meetings continue on a daily basis.
A decision is expected by May 15th...

Greg, thanks for the information. You've clearly labeled it as un-substantiated, so anyone who might come back on you about it just isn't thinking.
I hope it's true. Sounds like there might be some folks there who don't have their head where the sun don't shine. :D

I hope it comes to pass since it would make life much easier for existing Chapters and their budgets. It would allow us to continue using logos, stationary, domain names, swag and such that we already have, not to mention the recognition we have already worked hard to get. Good move if it happens! :allhail:

of course, if it does come to pass, we will have to make the letters stand for something else since there is no SVT.
how about Super Vehicle Team Owners Association?

Umm. But there WAS when our vehicles were built, we are still members (till June-July maybe longer...if SVOTA continues in some reincarnation).

Nothing that is "official". I have been asked not to "tease" you guys and to only post "official" announcements. When I get one, it will be posted ASAP.

Why? Our cars are SVT products and always will be SVT's.
Chrysler dumped Plymouth but there is still Plymouth clubs out there.
The team may be gone but the name does not have to die.

yeah, but there is no club sponsored by Chrysler.
no way in hell Ford is going to only support a club for older cars no longer made. However, if they want to take those same letters and make them stand for something else in order to support the future cars they do make I can see them doing that.
knowing them they'll rename it Shelby Vehicle Team Owners Association. Meetings will be held at your local country clubs and all events will be indoor car shows with the cars (only GT500s of course) roped off and under glass.

Nothing wrong with indoor car shows. We found we got the most attention and members doing our indoor Performance World show.

Besides, without indoor shows, you can't get this kind of advertising:

BTW in case you have missed it, the rumors of SVT going away maybe wrong also. That has been posted in several places with people at Ford stating that SVT is still in place and not going any where at this time.

With SVT maybe not going away, maybe it was us telling Ford not to do it. Remember when Ford was thinking of dropping the Mustang and replace it with the 1989 Probe. There was a major outcry.
Again, maybe Ford is listening to its CUSTOMERS not the bean counters!!

but the Probe was awesome!
....wait....where is the Probe?
actually if that car could have stuck around a little longer it would have been a great SVT product.

Let's hope that was the case. Plus, there's been enough negative publicity in magazines and the internet media that could have also twisted their arms.

You made my argument right there. If Ford is money conscience then they can't afford to destroy a whole culture of car enthusiasts by disbanding such a strong following. I know the new mustangs are great and I feel that so far they have made little connection with the 04's and below but we are one big family and the 05's and up would not be around if not for the protest of 1988/89'ers to keep the Mustang alive. Although we are sometimes considered a step above we are all in the same boat as the GTs and V-6s. IF SVTOA falls what’s next? The Mustang it’s self, then the whole Ford line up?
