Can anyone help? This weekend on 2 different occassions my car stalled at speed on the highway. When I tried to restart, the theft indicator was flashing rapidly. The first time the theft system reset by removing the ignition key and operating the locks per the owners manual. The engine restarted. The second time it happened, it took about 15 minutes of of cycling door locks, slamming doors, and cursing a whole lot before it started. There was really no pattern, the first time I was running at about 80 mph and the second time I was slowing down for an off ramp. I just got new keys and will reprogram them next time I get to look at the car. Everything I read says the PATS will not cause a shutdown, but that appears to be what is happening. Each time I couldn't catch the indicators on the dash because of reflections from the sun. My car is a 98 Cobra with a Vortec and has a Superchips controller installed. The most recent maintenance was a week previous with a complete A/C system rebuild at my dealer. :knock:

The dealer did it!! That would be my line!! :spank:

Kidding. Do a search using PATS, stall, and other terms here and at SVTPerformance. I've read about this a few years ago, and the info is out there somewhere.

Some of us 1999-2001 owners have noticed that the engine will shutdown after 10-15 minutes of 130-150 mph driving. We need to turn off the ignition and then back on. This can be distracting while traveling at about 140mph and wearing safety harnesses.

You could be experiencing a similar (lower speed) situation. Is the engine possibly getting too hot or reving very high at the time

Well, I searched the forums for other historical posts, and added my symptoms. Each time the car shutdown I had a buzzing sound from the vacinity of the fuel pump relay. Also I realized that it was buzzing just before the theft indicator activated. No codes so I'm guessing. Replaced the relay, and got 2 new keys. Found a broken coil pack over the supercharger amd replaced it. Took it for a drive and no problems yet.

Well, the last time I had a problem was 4 weeks ago. After changing the fuel pump relay, I went about 3 weeks before another failure. I changed the driver door dome light switch which had a funky feel to it although it seemed ok electrically. No stalling or theft alarm no starts since. It appears to be all better now. :)

Wow, that's one for the books. Makes sense, but it would take a good diagnostician to figure it out. Good work.

Thanks,

The most frustrating part of this whole ordeal is what happens inside the "black Box" anti-theft module. The schematics have the goz-ins and goz-outs but not what happens between. Who would have thought a dome light switch on the door would set off the anti theft system and cause a no-start. :wtf:
