Just read where Barrett-Jackson auctioned off a yet-to-be-built GT500 for $648,000 ($600K + 8%)! :thud:
This is MORE than the first GT went for! :thud:
It must be nice to have so much excess cash!

Some of us have jobs in locations where TV is not an option. :wow:

You were probably in Nassau or Freeport. Those places are NOT the REAL Bahamas. You need to visit places like Inagua, Rum Cay, Cat Island, Ragged Island, etc.

Did that GT500 have the nice sculpted hood like the prototype, or the cheasy plastic vents like the production model?
I really liked the original hood!

My understanding is that this was for the "First Production Model, yet to be built". So, I would assume it will come with the cheesy plastic vents.

They ran the press car across the stage at the auction. Who knows what will come off the actual line!

Something nice, but not quite worth $600K.
Lets see, for that money I'd buy 1 Ford GT, 1 Shelby GT350-H for a daily driver (new Hertz rent-a-racer), and one Ford FR500, and spend the rest racing it, while driving to events in my Ford GT, with a scarf flowing in the breeze (oops, the blower belt! Gackkk...)

I just finished watching that particuliar auction on B-J. I believe the vehicle sold for a high price because the money went to Mr. Shelby's charity for kids. Second, Carroll was there to inspire the auction.

The bottom line remains that at the end of the day the GT500 is still a Mustang. Having said that, I will not spend more than $42K for a brand new Mustang. I'm not big into nastalgia.

I was there at B-J and that 'Stang got more attention than most of the exotics at the show. I got some great pics and an autograph from Carroll !!
I hope the GT500 can take the lead over the new Camaro and the new Challenger though. The car is flat-out awesome !!

If (and that's a BIG if) GM and MOPAR produce them, they'll most likely be $10~20K less than a GT500, and everyone will compare them to the Mustang GT.

That's probably why it went so high -- tax writeoff/deduction for the donation to charity. ;)
